The findings suggest the importance of problem solving skills in influencing secondary school students’ mathematics achievement through the development of metacognitive awareness.

It concludes that mathematics problem-solving knowledge for teaching is a complex network of interdependent knowledge.
Realistic mathematics education and the DAPIC problem-solving process should be collaboratively used to develop students' mathematical literacy.
This study provides evidence that inductive reasoning, domain- specific problem solving and complex problem solving are related but distinct constructs and these skills can be fostered most efficiently between Grades 6 and 8.
Meanwhile, analysis of teacher's beliefs on problem solving shows that teachers tend to view both mathematics and how students should learn mathematics as body static perspective, while they tend to believe to apply idea of problem solving as dynamic approach when teaching mathematics.
This research supports the idea that instruction in mathematical problem solving should focus on the development of qualitative reasoning skills–such as how to build a mental model of the problem situation–in addition to quantitative reasoning skills–such as executing computational procedures.
We have proven through experiments that lab exercises designed with guidelines provided to solve the problem are very effective way of teaching problem solving skills.

In this paper we argue that a more explicit approach to teaching problem solving strategies may lead to better problem solvers.
First, 5th-grade teachers believe that problem solving in mathematics in primarily an application of computational skills.
The deficiency of these mathematics skills and also of cognitive abilities in learning inhibits the mathematics problem-solving.
From the findings it was observed that the use of problem solving method enhanced the achievement of the students in mathematics.
The results of the study revealed that pre-service elementary mathematics teachers have capability to use problem solving strategies and to solve problems; however the use of different strategies is rather limited.
As a result, it was found out that the mathematics teachers who work in the Ministry of National Education and teach at the 9th grade, have been given importance to problem-solving skills such as, problem-solving duration and problem-solving methods in their classes.
Therefore, not only the students should have the required mathematical knowledge and a good repertoire of different problem solving strategies, but also they should know when and how to use those strategies, along with monitoring and regulating their problem-solving processes using their metacognitive skills.
