Employing a repeated measures design with two independent variables (hearing condition and audio condition) and one between groups independent variable (native language), the results revealed the beneficial effects on noise cancelling headphones on performance.

Experimental results show that the new system is able to preserve desired internal sound while cancelling uncorrelated external noise.
Experiments on a stereo speech database contaminated with noise show that the PARAT microphone compares favourably with a high-quality noise-cancelling close-talking microphone.
The results also supported previous research that reflects positively on the benefits of noise cancelling headphones in reducing the effects of noise on performance especially for non-native English speakers.
Experimental results show that the developed system can preserve the auxiliary audio sound while cancelling external noise effectively.
The beneficial effects of noise cancelling headphones in improving the signal to noise ratio led to an improved performance for nonnative speakers.
They also highlight the benefits of a simple countermeasure such as noise cancelling headphones in mitigating some of the detrimental effects of noise on performance.
