This article claims that teachers’ views were shaped by their expectations and beliefs about the nature of technical education and what they perceived students may gain from such learning.
These challenges add to the difficulties of the civil engineering profession and education that are among the slowest in introducing technology and innovation.
Technical education needs total revamping and changes need to be introduced in the various sub-components of the system.
In the nutshell, India has a conducive environment where e-Learning could develop in future to solve many problems of education especially in rural India.
This paper identifies the key challenges, which are the result of this rapid and inevitable implementation of the ICT technologies in education, for both the instructors and the learners.
There is immediate need to take few corrective measures by the academic coordinators, policy makers and management of the institutes associated in providing technical manpower to the industries system; otherwise India will face an explosion of unemployed technical graduates/diploma holders.

In Korea, for example, the skilled workforce is 96 per cent, in Japan 80 per cent, in Germany 76 per cent and in Britain 70 per cent but in India it is only 10 per cent. Technical Education Institutes of India, can gain competitive edge in the future, by effective and creative ways to attract, retain and foster stronger relationships with students by interaction and mechanism of the market and industry.
It is considered as a giant leap forward to improve technical education in India by producing competitive engineers in the global market.
The findings suggest that engineering institutions (particularly private colleges) should change their focus from traditional methods of teaching and evaluation of students to interactive methods of learning to improve the quality of technical education in India.
Distance education is a partial solution to improve the dismal state of engineering education in India.
The massive demand for complementary training of engineering graduates in India indicates a mismatch between academic education and industry requirements.
These initiatives illustrate the feasibility and great potential of DE activities for introducing non-technical issues in engineering education.

Technical education has a critical role to play in building the economic prosperity and social stability of South Africa, by offering second chance education and training in the craft, technical and business skills so gravely needed by the economy.
