We observe that capacity of a wireless mesh network strongly depends on the ability of nearby mesh routers to communicate in parallel, which is only possible if the neighbor routers that may interfere use different channels.
In agreement to previous results for wireless networks, this work verifies that the requirements on the number of nodes to have a connected network may be relaxed when the nodes have random communication radii.
Secondly, our algorithms are the first to minimize the number of deployed mesh nodes with constant-factor approximation ratio in the non-uniform propagation setting.
Since the Z-network requirement will be based on the ripple profile of the elements, the Z-network requirements can be greatly reduced.
For such a network with Nc randomly distributed mesh clients, Nr regularly placed mesh routers and Ng gateways, assuming that each mesh router can transmit at W bits/s, the per-client throughput capacity has been derived as a function of Nc , Nr , Ng and W . The result illustrates that, in order to achieve high capacity performance, the number of mesh routers and the number of gateways must be properly chosen.
