In contrast to prior results, we find that a positive trend in CO emissions is likely for India and southeast Asia.
This study shows a need to establish a spatially disaggregated (district-level) energy database in the Hindu Kush–Himalayan countries to enable more accurate estimates of energy use and associated greenhouse gas emissions in the region.
Indeed, our efficiency and regression results show that there exists a sector heterogeneity and that the room for increasing economic growth/reducing greenhouse gas emissions is clearly different for each sector in every country.
The results also highlight the significance of technological change and province/territory specific characteristics in determining the level of greenhouse gas emissions.
This is useful in calculating the total budget of greenhouse gases of India.
Our results show that there are significant differences in the effects of different sectors on the composition of greenhouse emissions.

What are the technical factors contributing to metering inaccuracies of hydrogen refueling stations?
5 answers
The technical factors contributing to metering inaccuracies at hydrogen refueling stations include the need for larger volumetric flow rates for hydrogen compared to natural gas, potentially leading to undersized meters and affecting accuracy and lifespan of existing meters. Additionally, conventional metering equipment may exhibit less accuracy with hydrogen than with natural gas, potentially requiring meter replacements for hydrogen service. These challenges highlight the importance of addressing metering requirements specific to hydrogen to ensure accurate and reliable fuel dispensing at refueling stations, ultimately supporting the efficient operation and growth of hydrogen fuel vehicles in the market.
What are the specific environmental factors affecting the accuracy of metering in hydrogen refueling stations?
4 answers
Environmental factors affecting the accuracy of metering in hydrogen refueling stations include temperature, pressure, and safety considerations. Temperature ranges from -40°C to 85°C impact the calibration of mass flowmeters. Pressure variations from 2 bar to 700 bar affect the pressure dependence of mass flowmeters at refueling stations. Safety elements and risk assessments are crucial for optimal station location, especially in urban areas, to ensure accurate metering and prevent hazards. Abnormal events like incorrect input of ambient temperature can lead to safety breaches during refueling, affecting accuracy. Additionally, the physical properties of materials like plastic pipes and lubricants can be altered by hydrogen exposure, potentially impacting metering accuracy. These factors highlight the importance of meticulous calibration, location planning, and safety protocols in maintaining accurate metering at hydrogen refueling stations.
What is the current state of CO2 emissions in the transportation sector globally?
5 answers
The current state of CO2 emissions in the global transportation sector is concerning, with the sector responsible for a significant portion of greenhouse gas emissions. International freight transport alone generated 1.14 gigatons of CO2 emissions in 2015, highlighting the substantial impact of transportation on emissions. Efforts to calculate and assess these emissions have faced challenges, with discrepancies in methodologies and terminology, emphasizing the need for improved methodologies to compute transportation-related CO2 emissions. The sector's emissions are intertwined with global value chains, with the distance goods travel before reaching consumers increasing due to international trade, leading to significant carbon emissions from cross-border cargo movements. To address this issue, a comprehensive framework has been developed to identify enablers, barriers, benefits, and disadvantages in carbon emissions reduction in transportation, emphasizing the urgency of mitigating emissions to meet global climate goals.
What factors have influenced the change in per capita consumption of edible oils in Iran over the past decade?
5 answers
The change in per capita consumption of edible oils in Iran over the past decade has been influenced by various factors. Socioeconomic status plays a significant role, with higher SES quartiles showing increased calorie intake. Additionally, the welfare effects of price changes on edible oils impact consumption patterns, with urban consumers considering it a necessity and rural consumers viewing it as a luxury. Health considerations also affect consumption, as evidenced by a study on the fatty acid profiles of commonly consumed oils in Shiraz, Iran, which found that changes in consumption patterns can help reduce the risk of chronic diseases. Furthermore, the production and stability of edible oils, including the impact of greenhouse gas emissions from different dietary categories, also contribute to consumption trends in Iran.
AM0036: Use of biomass in heat generation equipment cdm
5 answers
The utilization of biomass in heat generation equipment, such as biomass-fired thermal power plants and biomass fuel equipment, offers a promising alternative for energy production. Efficient biomass power generation equipment structurally enhances energy conversion rates and reduces energy consumption, leading to improved overall efficiency. Biomass direct-fired combined heat and power generation systems provide a dual-mode operation for combined heat and power generation, meeting clean heating demands and ensuring high efficiency with minimal complexity. Additionally, a biomass stable combustion power generation system integrates various components like boilers, steam turbines, and generators to achieve stable combustion and effective power generation at a low cost, enhancing resource utilization and practicality. These advancements in biomass utilization demonstrate its potential in sustainable heat generation equipment for efficient energy production.
Are democracies good for long term economic growth?
5 answers
Democracies play a significant role in long-term economic growth. Research indicates that democracies tend to foster technological change, a key driver of economic advancement. Additionally, studies highlight that democratic regimes generally have a positive impact on economic growth by creating trust, protecting property rights, and reducing transaction costs. Furthermore, the interaction between varieties of coordination and social protection systems in advanced capitalist democracies can lead to higher economic growth rates in the long run. However, while democracy is often associated with economic development, empirical analyses have not consistently shown a direct and statistically significant relationship between democracy and GDP growth, suggesting that economic prosperity can be achieved under various regime types. Despite this, the evidence supports the notion that democracy contributes positively to technological progress and overall economic growth.
What is the purpose of the cross-border adjustment mechanism in the European Union-Vietnam Free Trade Agreement (EVFTA)?
5 answers
The purpose of the cross-border adjustment mechanism in the European Union-Vietnam Free Trade Agreement (EVFTA) is to address concerns about competitiveness and emissions leakage resulting from the absence of a global price on carbon or an internationally coordinated carbon-pricing system. This mechanism aims to equalize carbon pricing on foreign goods with carbon policies imposed on domestic production, ultimately reducing global greenhouse gas emissions while supporting the development needs of less affluent countries. Additionally, the EVFTA introduces opportunities and challenges for both Vietnam and the EU, particularly impacting the import and export volumes of agricultural products in Vietnam. The agreement also influences the banking sector, attracting foreign direct investment and necessitating improvements in risk management, digital transformation, and product diversification for Vietnamese commercial banks.
Issues in identifying a green company
5 answers
Identifying a green company poses challenges due to the lack of a consistent definition in the field. The term "green organization" lacks a universal definition, making it difficult to categorize companies as environmentally friendly. Moreover, the environmental impact of companies is crucial for sustainability, necessitating the identification of key emission sources through methodologies like the carbon footprint analysis. While many companies aim to be environmentally friendly, the transition to a sustainable supply chain, which encompasses environmental protection, social responsibility, and economic development, remains a complex task for enterprises. Overall, the absence of a clear-cut definition of a green organization and the multifaceted nature of sustainability practices contribute to the challenges in accurately identifying and categorizing green companies.
