Incorporating a novel mode of knowledge production within the doping literature, the stories presented here demonstrate elite athletes' candid accounts of being impacted by others’ doping behaviours in sport.
The findings indicate that the ban from sport deters doping.
This article suggests that the debate over doping has bifurcated between those who continue to support antidoping measures with insufficient ethical grounds and those who would potentially permit the unregulated use of performance-enhancement technologies in sport because of insufficient justifications for prohibition.
It will be further argued that this mirroring is reflected in a number of key drug myths and discursive positionings that have emerged in the sporting world: for example, that efficacious performance enhancement is a simple issue, that the health risks are like playing Russian Roulette, that doping undermines sport/morality to a degree that other forms of cheating do not and that doping policy is rational.
We argue that anti-doping policy in sport would benefit from placing greater emphasis on a harm minimisation model.
The results point to the possibility that doping use in sport needs to be studied by methods and perspectives other than as abusive and/or health risk behaviour.

Red-s is just for athlets?
5 answers
Relative Energy Deficiency Syndrome in Sport (RED-S) primarily affects athletes, leading to health and performance issues due to low energy availability. Research indicates that RED-S is prevalent among both young and elite athletes, with a high percentage showing related symptoms. While RED-S predominantly impacts athletes, it is crucial to note that the syndrome's effects extend beyond the physical realm. Psychological distress accompanies the physiological impairments experienced by athletes with RED-S, highlighting the complex interplay between physiological and psychological components of the syndrome. Although RED-S is commonly associated with athletes, it is essential to recognize the need for comprehensive prevention and awareness interventions involving various support personnel, such as coaches, dieticians, and sports medicine staff, to address the syndrome effectively.

What methods can be used to incorporate quantitative data into causal loop diagrams to better represent behavioral patterns?
4 answers
To incorporate quantitative data into causal loop diagrams (CLDs) for representing behavioral patterns, various methods can be utilized. One approach involves rigorously interpreted quotation analysis, which compares stakeholders' verbatim descriptions with CLD elements to confirm or disconfirm diagram components. Additionally, aggregation of multiple CLDs may be necessary to correctly attribute cause and effect from various data sets, with methods like triangulation, grounded theory, and synthesis being considered for data aggregation in system dynamics studies. Another method combines narratives, CLDs, and Behavior-Over-Time Graphs to illustrate problem structures and dynamic patterns, aiding exploration and reflection by a broad audience. These methods collectively enhance the representation of behavioral patterns in CLDs by incorporating quantitative data and ensuring a comprehensive understanding of complex systems.
How does the use of strategic narrative influence public opinion and decision-making?
5 answers
The use of strategic narratives plays a significant role in influencing public opinion and decision-making. Strategic storytelling aims to create divisions between 'us' and 'them' while portraying 'our side' as morally superior and 'their side' as a threat. Governments utilize strategic narratives to influence foreign audiences and policymakers by constructing blame narratives, which can legitimize certain actions and foster alliances. However, strategic narratives can lose traction during prolonged military interventions due to a weakening of content, normative resonance, and verisimilitude, impacting public support. Additionally, visual narratives, like those related to the Dakota Access Pipeline, can enhance the perception of issue importance but may not always be more effective than textual narratives in shifting attitudes and encouraging activism.
