Lacking the species diversity of the mountains and the drama of the sand deserts, the vegetation of the plains is probably the least studied of that of all the landforms of the Arabian Peninsula.
It can be suggested that the Ladakh Himalaya is a fascinating laboratory for Quaternary geomorphologists to unravel the history of landforms in a high, tectonically active and arid terrain.
Chenopodiaceae and Asteraceae play a principal role in both high-cold and montane deserts.
