Doping can be seen as a threat to the integrity of sport, not just because of the rule breaking doping currently entails.
It is furthermore shown that the standard arguments against the current ban on doping also entail that if doping was made legal any requirements that it should be open doping could not be justified.
The results show a growing public awareness for doping issues and increasing support for a comprehensive anti-doping strategy in Switzerland.

For effective prevention of doping, individual and situational factors that make an elite athlete more susceptible to doping than others should be investigated.
It will be argued that the criminalisation of doping could act as a greater deterrent than existing sanctions imposed by International Federations, and, when used in conjunction with those sanctions, will raise the overall ‘price’ of doping.
With the help of Bayesian logic, it can be shown that the interpretation of doping test results is far from trivial with reference to individual athletes and single doping tests, but that these tests can reveal results which can be fairly dependable when it comes to estimating the prevalence of doping.
Assessing the behavioural domain to which doping belongs to in athletes' mind would greatly advance doping behaviour research toward prevention and intervention.
"Doping" among amateur athletes occurs frequently.
