There is no ‘one best way’ of perfoming leadership, but different circumstances require different qualities if a leader wishes to be effective.

For example, a highly ambitious head of state will probably be a different kind of leader in comparison to one who is far more complacent.
It is hypothesized that leader political skill is associated with leader effectiveness (Study 1) and follower effectiveness (Study 2) through relationship quality.
Importantly, each type of leader then performs best in the context that is more likely to support their initial selection. Th is suggests a clear rationality of executive politics under often very unclear circumstances.
However, while remaining informal and maintaining a low public profile, in Karnataka state they are actively taking on new roles, adapting to the democratic, competitive political environment, becoming more representative and pluralist, and providing a wide range of services that are highly valued by the populations they serve.
Findings – The results support that transformational leadership mediates the relationship between leader political skill and follower performance.
