21 Mar 2010TL;DR: Challenges of 40/100 Gbps deployments on legacy fibre and system infrastructure are discussed here.
Abstract: High-bandwidth services require faster long-haul transport networks. Meanwhile operators are not ready to make evolve significantly their fibre infrastructure based on PMD-limited G.652 fibre while they would like to upgrade the already deployed WDM systems by replacing progressively 10 Gbps wavelengths by 40 and 100 Gbps channels. Challenges of 40/100 Gbps deployments on legacy fibre and system infrastructure are discussed here.

TL;DR: It is found that OCD MA-DPSK performs better in comparison to OCDMA-OOK, and provides parameter for designing and development of an OCDMA system for optical access network using DPSK.
Abstract: Abstract In this research, the performance of optical code division multiple access (OCDMA) using differential phase shift keying (DPSK) has been compared with OCDMA On-Off Keying (OOK). This comparison took place in terms of bit error rate (BER) and receiver power where two bit rates (155 Mbps and 622 Mbps) have been used for this analysis. Using of OptiSystem 7.0 simulation, comparing eye diagram and optical spectrum alongside with BER and Rx power. It is found that OCDMA-DPSK performs better in comparison to OCDMA-OOK. The performance analysis also provides parameter for designing and development of an OCDMA system for optical access network using DPSK.

25 Jun 2006TL;DR: In this study, the novel design improves the optical access network performance and enhances the system flexibility and scalability.
Abstract: In this paper, a Passive Optical Network (PON) based on Optical Code Division Multiple Access (OCDMA) is presented, and analyzed in detail. The proposed system can be applied to an optical access network with full services on demand, such as internet protocol, video on demand, telepresence and high quality audio. An OCDMA-PON combines advantages of PON and OCDMA technology. Simulation result elicits the proposed scheme is feasible. In this study, the novel design improves the optical access network performance and enhances the system flexibility and scalability.

TL;DR: The need for a shift of the data centres networks to the optical domain to reduce the power consumption and meet the bandwidth requirements is discussed.
Abstract: The exponential increase of Internet traffic due to cloud computing and other emerging web applications has created the need for more powerful data centres. These warehouse-scale data centres consist of thousands of racks interconnected with commodity switches and consume vast amount of energy. To face the requirements of the future data centres, new interconnection schemes have to be adopted to provide high throughput and reduced power consumption. Several optical interconnects for future data centre networks have recently appeared that provide high throughput, low latency and reduced power consumption. This paper discusses the need for a shift of the data centres networks to the optical domain to reduce the power consumption and meet the bandwidth requirements. Additionally, this paper presents some indicative optical interconnects for high performance data centres that have appeared recently in the research literature. Finally, it presents a qualitative categorization and comparison of these schemes based on their main features such as performance, connectivity and scalability.
