Journal ArticleDOI
TL;DR: In this article, when 2,6-xylenol is oxidised with chlorine dioxide in an aqueous solution, the following compounds are the main products: 2.6-dimethyl-1,4-benzoquinone, an alpha, beta-epoxy ketone, and 4-chloro-2,6dimethylphenol.
Abstract: : When 2,6-xylenol is oxidised with chlorine dioxide in an aqueous solution the following compounds are the main products: 2,6-dimethyl-1,4-benzoquinone, an alpha, beta-epoxy ketone, and 4-chloro-2,6-dimethylphenol. If oxidised in carbon tetrachloride solution, the xylenol gives the Diels-Alder dimer of 6-chloro-2,6-dimethyl-cyclohexa-2,4-dien-1-one in a low yield. Mesitol yields by oxidation in aqueous solution an alpha, beta-epoxy ketone, a chlorination product of this epoxy ketone, and 2,4,6-trimethyl-p-quinol. (Author)

TL;DR: In this paper, the reaction of hexaethylphosphorous triamide with an excess or an equimolecular amount of α-(diethylamino)-2,6-xylenol 2,2-bis(diethlamino)2-[α]-2, 6-xylyloxy]2,2, 2,3-tetrahydro-7-methyl-1, 2-benzoxaphosphole] is formed if the triamide is purified by distillation.
Abstract: 1. The reaction ofα-(diethylamino)-2, 6-xylenol with excess of hexaethylphosphorous triamide leads to the formation ofα-(diethylamino)-2,6-xylyl tetraethylphosphorodiamidite. 2. In the reaction of hexaethylphosphorous triamide with an excess or an equimolecular amount ofα-(diethylamino)-2,6-xylenol 2,2-bis(diethylamino)-2-[α-(diethylamino)-2,6-xylyloxy]-2,2,2,3-tetrahydro-7-methyl-1, 2-benzoxaphosphole is formed if the phosphorous triamide is purified by distillation and 2, 3-bis(diethylamino)-2, 3, 2′,3′-tetrahydro-7,7′-dimethyl-2,2′-spirobi[2,2-dihydro-l,2-benzoxaphosphole] is formed if the phosphorous triamide is purified over sodium.
