TL;DR: In this paper, a scale model of a marine echo-sounder is described, in which acoustic waves are scattered by fish, and a frequency of 1.48 Mc/s was chosen.
Abstract: A scale model of a marine echo-sounder is described, in which acoustic waves are scattered by fish. The parameters are considered for a model immersed in a tank of fresh water in the laboratory. A frequency of 1.48 Mc/s was chosen. Many measurements were made on standard targets, supports for small obstacles, the sensibly plane-wave region, the variation of velocity of sound in water after refilling the tank and the signals received from a target of known acoustic back-scattering cross section at various ranges. As the experimental results show close agreement with calculations from theory, the validity of the model is established.

TL;DR: In this article, the angular dependence of Brillouin spectra of 4n-pentyl-4-cyano-biphenyl (5CB) liquid crystals homogeneously and homeotropically confined in a planar liquid-crystal (LC) cell were measured using a 6-pass tandem Fabry-Perot interferometer.
Abstract: The angular dependence of Brillouin spectra of 4-n-pentyl-4-cyano-biphenyl (5CB) liquid crystals homogeneously and homeotropically confined in a planar liquid-crystal (LC) cell were measured using a 6-pass tandem Fabry-Perot interferometer. The sound velocity and the elastic constant of 5CB were obtained from the Brillouin shift without knowing the refractive index thanks to a special right-angle scattering geometry. The sound velocity and the attenuation coefficient of the longitudinal acoustic waves propagating along the direction of the director were larger than those of the longitudinal sound waves propagating along the direction perpendicular to the director. Based on the observed acoustic anisotropy, the three elastic constants C 11, C 33, and C 13 could be obtained.

TL;DR: In this article, a model was developed to describe the excitation of Lamb and Rayleigh waves by a Gaussian beam incident on a liquid/air/solid corner, and analytical expressions for the displacement fields of the generated modes were derived by applying a mode theory that accounts for the contribution of the reflected waves.
Abstract: A model is developed to describe the excitation of Lamb and Rayleigh waves by a Gaussian beam incident on a liquid/air/solid corner. Analytical expressions for the displacement fields of the generated modes are derived by applying a mode theory that accounts for the contribution of the reflected waves. Numerical computations illustrate the optimum conditions under which the strongest stimulation of Lamb and Rayleigh waves may be expected.

TL;DR: In this paper, the effects produced by internal waves in the ocean on coherent spatial and temporal processing of acoustic signals based on the empirical Garret-Munk GM75 internal wave spectrum was derived.
Abstract: : Estimates are derived on the effects produced by internal waves in the ocean on coherent spatial and temporal processing of acoustic signals based on the empirical Garret-Munk GM75 internal wave spectrum. Results are presented for horizontal and surface limited rays, for point and array receivers, and for stationary and moving sources.
