TL;DR: In this paper, the directions of an external electric field at which extreme changes occur in the difference in the velocities of elastic waves propagating along the initial acoustic axis in a piezoelectric medium of arbitrary symmetry are theoretically determined.
Abstract: The directions of an external electric field at which extreme changes occur in the difference in the velocities of elastic waves propagating along the initial acoustic axis in a piezoelectric medium of arbitrary symmetry are theoretically determined. The problem of degeneracy in an external electric field is considered for elastic waves propagating in a given direction from the vicinity of an initial acoustic axis. The extreme electric fields and corresponding changes in the characteristics of transverse waves are calculated by the example of the behavior of acoustic axes in Bi12GeO20, Bi12SiO20, La3Ga5SiO14, and LiNbO3 crystals.

TL;DR: In this paper, the upper limit of the frequency range of a broadband optical receiver of surface acoustic waves based on a two-beam laser interferometer and depending on the diameter of the laser beam in the reception area on the sample surface is determined theoretically and experimentally.
Abstract: The upper limit of the frequency range of a broadband optical receiver of surface acoustic waves based on a two-beam laser interferometer and depending on the diameter of the laser beam in the reception area on the sample surface is determined theoretically and experimentally. It is shown that the frequency range of the developed receiver is 0.05–53 MHz and in the limit can reach 1 GHz.

TL;DR: In this article, the authors used a Doppler laser interferometer to measure the time dependences of the vibrational speed distributions over the surface of metal specimens corresponding to the acoustical field caused by the bounded aperture radiator, excited by the pulse signal, placed on the opposite surface of the specimen.
Abstract: With the use of Doppler laser interferometer, the time dependences of the vibrational speed distributions over the surface of metal specimen are obtained corresponding to the acoustical field caused by the bounded aperture radiator, excited by the pulse signal, placed on the opposite surface of the specimen. Using the broadband optical system with the high spatial resolution for detection of acoustical signals allows to fulfill the investigation of spatio-temporal structure of the field. It has been found that the envelope of detected shortduration pulse signal can essentially differ in form from the envelope of probing signal and mean value of detected signal over the period of oscillations is non-zero therewith. The difference between the envelopes constructed for positive or negative half-periods of signals is most significant within the peripheral zone of ultrasonic beam. It is shown that the disclosed phenomena are determined by the phase shift caused by nonplanar wavefront; they can be revealed by a detector with the high locality only.
