TL;DR: In this article, a combination of ceria, second metal oxide and activated alumina is used to oxidize volatile organic fraction in diesel engine exhaust by contacting the hot exhaust with the catalyst composition.
Abstract: Oxidation catalyst compositions include a catalytic material having a BET surface area of at least about 10 m 2 /g and consists of a combination of bulk ceria and a bulk second metal oxide which may be one or more of titania, zirconia, ceria-zirconia, silica, alumina-silica and α-alumina. The combination may optionally also include activated alumina having a BET surface area of at least about 10 m 2 /g. The ceria, second metal oxide and optional activated alumina may be mixed together or provided as discrete layers. Optionally, one of platinum or palladium metal may be dispersed on the catalytic material provided that the platinum, when used, is used in limited amounts to preclude excessive oxidation of SO 2 to SO 3 . The catalyst compositions may be used for oxidation of oxidizeable components in a gas-borne stream, e.g., in a method to treat diesel engine exhaust by contacting the hot exhaust with the catalyst composition to promote the oxidation of the volatile organic fraction. The optional inclusion of platinum or palladium promotes the oxidation of gas phase components, e.g., hydrocarbons and carbon monoxide.

TL;DR: In this article, a technique of freeze drying at atmospheric pressure was developed, which was then used to investigate the freeze-drying kinetics by studying the influence of factors such as product thickness, drying temperature, and the suitability of activated alumina and active carbon as drying agents.

TL;DR: The effects of the crystalline structure and surface functional groups of porous inorganic materials on the adsorption of dichloroacetic acid (DCAA) were evaluated by using hexagonal mesoporous silicates, modified HMSs, faujasite Y zeolite and activated alumina as adsorbents, and compared with powdered activated carbon (PAC).

TL;DR: In this paper, a catalytic material consisting of ceria and activated alumina with a surface area of at least 10 m2/g was proposed for pollution abatement of exhausts containing unburned fuel or oil.
Abstract: Oxidation catalyst compositions include a catalytic material containing ceria and alumina each having a surface area of at least about 10 m2/g, for example, ceria and activated alumina in a weight ratio of from about 1.5:1 to 1:1.5. Optionally, platinum may be included in the catalytic material in amounts which are sufficient to promote gas phase oxidation of CO and HC but which are limited to preclude excessive oxidation of SO?2? to SO3. Alternatively, palladium in any desired amount may be included in the catalytic material. The catalyst compositions have utility as oxidation catalysts for pollution abatement of exhausts containing unburned fuel or oil. For example, the catalyst compositions may be used in a method to treat diesel engine exhaust by contacting the hot exhaust with the catalyst composition to promote the oxidation of the volatile organic fraction component of particulates in the exhaust.

TL;DR: In this article, a method for removing at least CO2 and water from a gas stream includes providing an adsorbent formed from a process comprising physically mixing activated alumina solids and solid salts of alkali metals, alkaline earth metals or ammonium ion.
Abstract: Base treated aluminas exhibit improved CO2 capacity over untreated aluminas. Base treated aluminas prepared by physically mixing alumina and base during forming have (1) a higher surface area, (2) less hydrothermal aging, (3) improved CO2 capacity and (4) lower cost than base treated aluminas produced by aqueous impregnation. A method for removing at least CO2 and water from a gas stream includes providing an adsorbent formed from a process comprising physically mixing activated alumina solids and solid salts of alkali metals, alkaline earth metals or ammonium ion; and contacting the gas stream with the adsorbent.
