TL;DR: To obtained the maximum directivity of the array, the best distances of the T/R elements in the array are optimized by using the genetic algorithm (GE) combining with VFEM/AMLFMA.
Abstract: An active-antenna array with 18 transmit elements and 18 receive elements is designed and fabricated. This T/R array can work at two different frequencies (19.5 GHz and 21.5 GHz) with multiple levels of isolation between the transmit and receive channels. A hybrid element-level vector finite element and adaptive multilevel fast multipole method (ELVFEM/AMLFMA) is applied to simulation the performance parameters of the array element and the full array fast. To obtained the maximum directivity of the array, the best distances of the T/R elements in the array are optimized by using the genetic algorithm (GE) combining with VFEM/AMLFMA. The design efficiency of the array is improved at a ratio of 30%. Finally the performance of the T/R array fabricated is measured in experiments and some good results are obtained.

TL;DR: In this article, the main antenna pattern is adjusted based on a comparison of the performance of the main receive beam and test receive beam, and performance of test receive beacon is assessed based on the test radio frequency signal.
Abstract: The application relates to a method for operation of an active antenna array and to an active antenna system. The active antenna system has a signal processing unit and an active antenna array adapted to be operated with a main antenna pattern correlated to a main receive beam and with at least one test antenna pattern correlated to a test receive beam having an orientation different from the main receive beam. A main radio frequency signal is received based on the main antenna pattern and a test radio frequency signal is received based on the test antenna pattern. The main radio frequency signal comprises communications traffic. Performance of the main receive beam is assessed based on the main radio frequency signal and performance of the test receive beam is assessed based on the test radio frequency signal. The main antenna pattern is adjusted based on a comparison of the performance of the main receive beam and test receive beam.

TL;DR: In this article, a Bi-directional active and passive meandered circularly polarized (CP) composite right/left-handed (CRLH) inspired substrate integrated waveguide (SIW) based leaky-wave antennas (LWAs) is presented.
Abstract: Bi-directional active and passive meandered circularly polarized (CP) composite right/left-handed (CRLH) inspired substrate integrated waveguide (SIW) based leaky-wave antennas (LWAs) are presented. By meandering the microstrip line, the dimension of the proposed five-cell antenna along the scanning plane is reduced by 33.5% compared to the original CP CRLH LWA based on SIW [1]. Furthermore, incorporating the bi-directional amplifiers, the current distribution of the antenna is manipulated to control the radiation characteristics. The proposed active meandered CP CRLH LWA supports both transmitting and receiving operation while delivering enhanced spatial resolution.

TL;DR: In this article, an active antenna is installed within a ceiling of a building to improve the range of a wireless and/or cellular network, while a ground plane is installed throughout the ceiling to reduce the occurrence of multipath interference of radio frequency signals.
Abstract: An active antenna may be installed within a ceiling of a building to improve the range of a wireless and/or cellular network. Further, a ground plane may be installed throughout the ceiling to reduce the occurrence of multipath interference of radio frequency (RF) signals. In addition, one or more passive antennas may also be installed in the ceiling to further extend the range of the wireless and/or cellular network within the building. Each of the antennas may be designed to facilitate (RF) signal gain for a collection or range of frequencies. In some instances, the installation of active and passive antennas may increase the range of a communications network, while the installation of a ground plane throughout the ceiling may reduce the occurrence on multipath interference resulting in improved wireless and/or cellular network performance including increased bandwidth and range.

TL;DR: In this paper, the position of a Gunn diode on a rectangular microstrip patch antenna has been proposed based on a simple, but accurate transmission line model, which takes into account the intrinsic losses of the patch.
Abstract: Based on a simple, but accurate transmission line model a new formula for location the position of a Gunn diode on a rectangular microstrip patch antenna has been proposed. It also takes into account the intrinsic losses of the patch. Unlike the earlier design formula the present design yields improved spectral purity of the radiated wave, and better radiation pattern. Experimental results have been presented in support of the theoretical conclusions.
