TL;DR: In this paper, a reactive FET was used to switch the oscillation mode in a two-element active array using Gunn devices at 12.45GHz at the same frequency band.
Abstract: In this paper, a new technique of realizing the mode switching in an active antenna by using reactive FET is presented. The reactive FET switches the oscillation mode in a two-element active array using Gunn devices at 12.45GHz. One-way switching is observed by controlling the bias voltage of reactive FET. Two-way switching is observed by controlling the bias voltage of Gunn devices.

TL;DR: In this article, the authors proposed a method and device for detecting and repairing a channel anomaly of an active antenna, and the method includes: an operation state of a transmission channel or a reception channel is determined by analyzing in real-time data of a feedback coupling channel or data of the reception channel, if the operation state is anomalous, an anomaly protection is performed and an alarm is reported; a level of the alarm and a reason causing the alarm are determined, if data of transmission/reception channel are anomalous and the anomaly protection was performed, and after the alarm
Abstract: The present disclosure provides a method and device for detecting and repairing a channel anomaly of an active antenna, and the method includes: an operation state of a transmission channel or a reception channel is determined by analyzing in real time data of a feedback coupling channel or data of the reception channel, if the operation state is anomalous, an anomaly protection is performed and an alarm is reported; a level of the alarm and a reason causing the alarm are determined, if data of the transmission/reception channel are anomalous and the anomaly protection is performed, a current antenna beam forming parameter is stored and the antenna beam forming parameter is set to zero; after the alarm has been eliminated, a stored valid antenna beam forming parameter is set to a valid value; and if a transmission/reception analog channel operates anomalously and the anomaly protection is performed, the antenna beam forming parameter is re-acquired and an acquired valid antenna beam forming parameter is configured. The present disclosure can detect states of multiple transmission/reception channels of an active antenna without an extra calibration channel, thus reducing the design cost of a system.

TL;DR: In this article, an active antenna for UHF/VHF signal receiving is described, the active antenna being capable of configuration in one of a plurality of possible modes, including multiple resonances in the UHF and VHF bands.
Abstract: An active antenna for UHF/VHF signal receiving is described, the active antenna being capable of configuration in one of a plurality of possible modes. The active antenna includes an antenna element configured for multiple resonances in the UHF/VHF bands, and capable of generating multiple radiation modes as well as active impedance matching using a microprocessor and multi-port switch having variable or multiple selectable modes. The active antenna may include a second antenna element arranged in a right-angle orientation with respect to the first antenna element. The first antenna element, second antenna element, or a combination may be selected for receiving signals in at a desired frequency. A three-dimensional antenna assembly is also described. Each of the examples illustrate an active beam steering antenna capable of UHF/VHF signal receiving.

TL;DR: This paper describes the design and behaviour of a novel compact self-phased integrated mixer active antenna receive array that performs automatic beam steering at low IF frequencies by the use of a pilot carrier inserted in-channel with the information signal.
Abstract: This paper describes the design and behaviour of a novel compact self-phased integrated mixer active antenna receive array. The array performs automatic beam steering at low IF frequencies by the use of a pilot carrier inserted in-channel with the information signal. The phasing considerations, advantages, properties and practical considerations of this type of array are outlined. An experimental array based on this technique has been constructed to verify the principles involved. Experimental results on self-mixing and self-phasing performance are included in order to illustrate the automatic beam steering capability of this type of array.

TL;DR: In this article, a rigorous finite-difference time-domain (FDTD) modeling method has been presented to analyze the Gunn diodes covering three grid cells in the axial direction.
Abstract: A rigorous finite-difference time-domain (FDTD) modeling method has been presented to analyze the Gunn diodes covering three grid cells in the axial direction. The numerical results of an active antenna are near to the measured results and better than the computed ones in previous studies. This approach is convenient to study millimeter and sub-millimeter wave circuits with nonlinear lumped elements. According to the practical grid structures, the iterated field equations group of the diodes occupying two, four or more grid cells can be achieved easily
