TL;DR: In this paper, the authors proposed a receiver capable of reducing the influence on an active antenna, and surely detecting the connection state of the active antenna by detecting the current detected by the current-detecting circuit.
Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a receiver capable of reducing the influence on an active antenna, and surely detecting the connection state of the active antenna. SOLUTION: The receiver 20 connected to an active antenna 10 comprises a current mirror circuit, equipped with a reference-side transistor (transistor 60) and an output-side transistor (transistor 61); a power feed circuit (antenna power feed circuit 23) for feeding power to the active antenna via the output terminal of the reference-side transistor; a current-detecting circuit (resistor 62) for detecting the current fed to the active antenna through the power feed circuit by a current through the output terminal of the output side transistor, and a state-determining circuit (comparator 57 and resistors 54-56) for determining the connection of the active antenna to the receiver, by the current detected by the current-detecting circuit. TL;DR: In this article, the active antenna has a looped strip guard that is provided with a capacitor of bridged interruption, and the primary side of matching transformer is attached to the terminal portions.
Abstract: The active antenna has a looped strip guard (1) that is provided with a capacitor (2) of bridged interruption (3). The primary side of matching transformer (4) is attached to the terminal portions (7,8), and secondary side of transformer is attached to amplifier circuit (6). The looped strip guard is provided with branch line (5) whose end is attached to secondary side of transformer such that the connection point (18) provided between branch line and looped strip guard is provided with respect to electrical field component.

23 May 2010TL;DR: In this paper, an architecture for low cost low power high gain electronically steered antenna arrays is described, where single layer dual polarization active antenna elements convert between RF and IF when fed by a local oscillator signal that is distributed by radiating between backplane layers.
Abstract: An architecture is described that is targeted for low cost low power high gain electronically steered antenna arrays. To achieve low cost, single chip up/downconverters are assumed and very simple packaging is designed, all of which is suitable for mass production. Specifically, single layer dual polarization active antenna elements convert between RF and IF when fed by a local oscillator signal that is distributed by radiating between backplane layers. Measurements of a 16 element array prototype will be presented.

01 Oct 2009TL;DR: In this article, the authors present a solution to distribute the TRM components across a multi-channel PCB, adopting commercial assembly techniques where possible, for ESCAN radar for airborne applications.
Abstract: The growing maturity of ESCAN radar for airborne applications calls for greater emphasis on cost-effective packaging in the active antenna. An attractive solution is to distribute the TRM components across a multi-channel PCB, adopting commercial assembly techniques where possible. Component design, PCB structure and antenna layout are key enablers of low cost manufacture.

TL;DR: In this article, a coplanar SiGe MMIC for 25.5 GHz power generation is described, which shows a frequency tuning range of >250 MHz which can be adjusted by the frequency of the synchronisation oscillator.
Abstract: Millimeterwave transit time devices are monolithically integrated on a high resistivity silicon substrate. The resonant structure acts as an active antenna at 76.5 GHz with a synchronisation network. Acting as a subharmonic synchronisation oscillator, a coplanar SiGe MMIC for 25.5 GHz power generation is described. The realized module shows a frequency tuning range of >250 MHz which can be adjusted by the frequency of the synchronisation oscillator.
