TL;DR: In this paper, the performance of a paraboloid reflector with an active patch antenna feed was analyzed and the effects of frequency pulling at the active antenna feed, induced by the parabolic reflector antenna, were measured and predicted.
Abstract: The performance of a paraboloid reflector with an active patch antenna feed has been analyzed. The effects of frequency pulling at the active antenna feed, induced by the parabolic reflector antenna, are measured and predicted. Measured far-field pattern results for the combined reflector active antenna configuration are also presented. © 1994 John Wiley & Sons, Inc.

TL;DR: A 20 GHz active receive slot array has been developed for operation in the downlink frequency band of NASA's Advanced Communication Technology Satellite (ACTS) for the ACTS Mobile Terminal (AMT) project as mentioned in this paper.
Abstract: A 20 GHz active receive slot array has been developed for operation in the downlink frequency band of NASA's Advanced Communication Technology Satellite (ACTS) for the ACTS Mobile Terminal (AMT) project. The AMT is used to demonstrate voice and data communication between a mobile terminal and a fixed terminal via the ACTS satellite. The active antenna consists of an array of fourteen linear series-fed-type microstrip slot arrays, fourteen packaged monolithic microwave integrated circuit (MMIC) low noise amplifier (LNA) submodules connected at each subarray output, a 14-way Wilkinson-type power divider, and a final additional LNA submodule used as a driver amplifier. The active receive array was designed to achieve the receive sensitivity requirement by placing the LNAs as close as possible to the antenna subarrays, minimizing the losses that occur in front of the amplifiers. The additional driver amplifier further minimizes the system G/T sensitivity to losses that follow the antenna. >

TL;DR: In this article, a radiation apparatus for a free-space active antenna with a cooling plate, capable of increasing thermal reliability, and an active antenna thereof is proposed. But the authors do not consider the effect of the flow of cooling fluids.
Abstract: According to the present invention, suggested are a radiation apparatus for a free-space active antenna with a cooling plate, capable of increasing thermal reliability, and an active antenna thereof. The apparatus includes: a plurality of plate parts arranged in a first direction, extended in a second direction and coming in thermal contact with transmission and reception elements of an active antenna; an inlet header part extended in the first direction, and connected to an end of the plate parts; an outlet header part extended in the first direction, and connected to the other end of the plate parts; and a cooling fluid circulation part supplying cooling fluids to the plate parts and collecting cooling fluids from the plate parts through the inlet header part and the outlet header part. With respect to the flow of the cooling fluids, the cross-sectional area of an upstream section of the inlet header part is smaller than the cross-sectional area of a downstream section thereof, and the cross-sectional area of an upstream section of the outlet header part is larger than the cross-sectional area of a downstream section thereof. Also, when the size of a reference cross-sectional area of the inlet and outlet header parts is defined as D, the size of the cross-sectional area of the upstream section is equal to D, the size of the cross-sectional area of the downstream section is larger than D, components of the cooling fluids include antifreeze, the material of the plate parts include metal, the transmission and reception elements are placed on both sides of the plate parts in the first direction, and the transmission and reception elements are arranged on both the sides in a grid form, respectively.

TL;DR: In this paper, an in-antenna power-combining approach based on a circularly-polarized primary radiator is investigated, where the output power of parallel amplifiers can be directly combined in the primary radiator itself without an additional power combiner network.
Abstract: In this paper an in-antenna power-combining approach based on a circularly-polarized primary radiator is investigated. The radiation is based on the principle of an integrated lens antenna, where the primary radiator consists of a slot antenna with eight excitation elements. The output power of parallel amplifiers can be directly combined in the primary radiator itself without an additional power combiner network. The bandwidth, efficiency and axial ratio of the proposed primary radiator is investigated through simulations and wherever possible verified by measurements. In this work, the passive antenna, the connected amplifiers and the active antenna are investigated in detail and are finally compared with each other.
