TL;DR: In this article, the use of a rectangular dielectric resonator as an antenna element is reported, where the resonator is excited in its lowest order magnetic dipole mode using a microstrip line-slot combination.
Abstract: The use of a rectangular dielectric resonator as an antenna element is reported. The resonator is excited in its lowest order magnetic dipole mode using a microstrip line-slot combination. Measured results on the proposed antenna configuration show that the antenna has a bandwidth of about 10% and that its far field pattern is similar to that of a magnetic dipole. The overall antenna configuration is small in size, and can be easily integrated with MIC's (microwave integrated circuits). The proposed configuration should be useful in applications such as active antenna arrays where the active circuitry can be fabricated on the same substrate. >

09 Oct 2012TL;DR: In this article, a reconfigurable antenna utilizing parasitic layers is described, where the active driven antenna is a patch antenna element and the parasitic element is an array of selectively reconfigured pixels interconnected via microelectromechanical switches.
Abstract: Reconfigurable antennas utilizing parasitic layers are disclosed herein. In certain embodiments, a reconfigurable antenna may include an active driven antenna element. The active driven antenna may be a patch antenna element. A parasitic element may be disposed over the active antenna element and be configured to couple with electromagnetic energy emitted from the active antenna element via electromagnetic mutual coupling. The parasitic element may include an array of selectively reconfigurable pixels interconnected via microelectromechanical switches. By selectively reconfiguring the geometry of the array, the reconfigurable antenna may be configured to operate in multiple operating modes.

29 Dec 2009TL;DR: In this article, an active antenna array consisting of a plurality of antenna elements, a first port, a DC voltage supply and at least one DC voltage extractor is described. And the first port relays a general first protocol receive signal to a first protocol link.
Abstract: The present disclosure teaches an active antenna array for a mobile communications network. The active antenna array comprises a plurality of antenna elements, a first port, a first DC voltage supply and at least one DC voltage extractor. The plurality of antenna elements relays at least first protocol radio signals. The first port is connected to at least one individual first protocol relay path. The first port relays a general first protocol receive signal to a first protocol link. The first DC voltage supply provides a first DC voltage to at least a portion of the first protocol link. The at least one DC voltage extractor, is located in the at least one individual first protocol relay path. The DC voltage extractor extracts at least one individual DC voltage to supply an at least one amplifier.

TL;DR: The analysis results indicate that the improved matrix-type FDTD method is not only accurate and accurate, but also time-saving in simulating the complicated hybrid networks.
Abstract: An improved flnite-difierence time-domain (FDTD) method has been extended to analyze the antennas with complicated lumped/active networks in this paper. The improved FDTD method is based on a novel integral transform and the matrix theory. Combining the novel integral transform with Kirchhofi's circuit laws, the hybrid networks comprised of high order linear and nonlinear elements with arbitrary connection can be modeled by a stable matrix equation. An efiective model is built for linear lumped networks including internal independent sources. A wire antenna loaded with wideband match network and a two-element active patch antenna loaded with Gunn diodes are analyzed by the developed techniques. The analysis results indicate that the improved matrix-type FDTD method is not only sta- ble and accurate, but also time-saving in simulating the complicated hybrid networks.

TL;DR: In this article, a microstrip antenna with dual-band and dual-polarisation operation, realized by electromagnetically feeding using a micro-strip-T junction and CPW-line, is proposed and discussed.
Abstract: A microstrip antenna with dual-band and dual-polarisation operation, realised by electromagnetically feeding using a microstrip-T junction and CPW-line, is proposed and discussed. Since both ports of the antenna are electromagnetically coupled and separately placed on both layers of a substrate, the proposed antenna eliminates the need for capacitors in the RF path for multi-layered active antenna applications.
