TL;DR: A multiple description version of a speech coder to alleviate distortions caused by frame erasures is proposed and a coder variation that uses mel-cepstral coefficients instead of linear prediction parameters as spectral specifier is proposed, allowing better recognition in noisy environments when access to the raw coder parameters is available at the receiver.

Abstract: An MPEG2/4 dual codec algorithm has been developed, targeting consumer products with digital video storage, digital network communication, and so on. By using new method of sharing the motion estimation (ME) between MPEG2 and MPEG4, a low power and high quality MPEG2/4 dual codec system can be achieved.

TL;DR: The results indicate that the 16 kbit/s APC-MLQ can successfully transmit these low-speed voice band data and is applicable to digital maritime satellite communication systems which must carry both speech and voiceband data up to 2.4 kbit/, according to field trials with G-III facsimile transmission.
Abstract: This paper presents an evaluation of the performance, with low-speed voiceband data at 300 bit/s, 1.2 kbit/s and 2.4 kbit/s, of a 16 kbit/s APC (Adaptive Predictive Coding) with maximum likelihood quantization(MLQ). By measuring modem bit error rates, the effect of a long-term predictor and influence of a subscriber line and channel bit errors over the APC-MLQ codec were investigated. The results indicate that the 16 kbit/s APC-MLQ can successfully transmit these low-speed voiceband data and is applicable to digital maritime satellite communication systems which must carry both speech and voiceband data up to 2.4 kbit/s. The performance has also been confirmed through field trials with G-III facsimile transmission at 2.4 kbit/s over a digital maritime satellite transmission system.

17 Apr 2006TL;DR: This paper is introducing H.264 based multi-view video codec with additional disparity estimation/compensation, modified the buffering structure and introduced different referencing modes for coding and speed optimization.
Abstract: Multi-view video applications are getting popular these days with newly introduced 3D displays. Compression of these sequences are mostly done by applying H.264 codec to each video sequence seperately. Since there is redundancy between different camera views, coding gain can be improved by exploiting those redundancies with the use of disparity estimation/compensation. In this paper, we are introducing H.264 based Multi-view Video Codec with additional disparity estimation/compensation. For coding and speed optimization, we have modified the buffering structure and introduced different referencing modes. Our codec outperforms independent H.264 coding when cameras are closely located. If cameras are sparsely located, coding gain can still be improved depending on the video characteristics.

TL;DR: An efficient residual coding method of the SAOC-TSC is proposed to reduce the side information bitrate without audio quality degradation or complexity increase.
Abstract: In interactive audio services, users can render audio objects rather freely to match their desires and the spatial audio object coding (SAOC) scheme is fairly good both in the sense of bitrate and audio quality. But rather perceptible audio quality degradation can occur when an object is suppressed or played alone. To complement this, the SAOC scheme with Two-Step Coding (SAOC-TSC) was proposed. But the bitrate of the side information increases two times compared to that of the original SAOC due to the bitrate needed for the residual coding used to enhance the audio quality. In this paper, an efficient residual coding method of the SAOC-TSC is proposed to reduce the side information bitrate without audio quality degradation or complexity increase. key words: interactive audio service, spatial audio object coding, residual coding
