TL;DR: In this article, the authors present the software and hardware implementation of multi-channel AMR codec algorithm, which is achieved using TMS320C62xx DSP chip and describe the efficient software scheme for implementing AMR Codec and detailed hardware design.
Abstract: ETRI adopt AMR codec for developing the 3GPP based IMT-2000 system. This paper presents the software and hardware implementation of multi-channel AMR codec. The real-time implementation of AMR codec algorithm is achieved using TMS320C62xx DSP chip. We describe the efficient software scheme for implementing AMR codec and detailed hardware design. The multi-channel AMR codec is evaluated and confirmed in 3GPP test sequences, stand-alone test system and ETRI IMT-2000 prototype system.

TL;DR: A multi-layer super-wideband embedded speech and audio coding algorithm extending bit rates from 36 to 64 kb/s on the basis of ITU-T Recommendation G.729.1 with a multi-stage coding structure that has good performance compared with reference codec.
Abstract: This paper proposes a multi-layer super-wideband embedded speech and audio coding algorithm extending bit rates from 36 to 64 kb/s on the basis of ITU-T Recommendation G.729.1 with a multi-stage coding structure. This codec consists of three embedded stages: G.729.1 wideband coding operating in the range from 8 to 32 kb/s, modified Modulated Lapped Transform (MLT) coding of the band (7-14 kHz) at 36, 40 & 48 kb/s and MDCT transform coding for wideband residual signal at 56 and 64 kb/s. In addition, some methods are proposed in transform coding according to perception significance. The objective and subjective listening tests show that this codec has good performance compared with reference codec.

TL;DR: Experimental results show that the method of MPEG-4 CODEC using IPP library is effective and is a valuable solution to real-time multimedia processing in embedded system.
Abstract: This paper studies the Integrated Performance Primitives(IPP) library for multimedia processing and the MPEG-4 CODEC technology, proposes a method of MPEG-4 CODEC using IPP library,in the background of real-time video processing in embedded system. A MPEG-4 video transmission system based on Intel PXA255 in the wireless network environment is designed and implemented. It is a valuable solution to real-time multimedia processing in embedded system. Experimental results show that the method is effective.

TL;DR: In this article, the authors present techniques for inline switching of video and/or audio codecs for video and audio data, where a first device encodes data that includes portions(s) that are encoded using a first codec and portion(s), which are encoded by a second codec.
Abstract: Techniques described herein are directed to the inline switching of video and/or audio codecs for video and/or audio data. A first device encodes data that includes portion(s) that are encoded using a first codec and portion(s) that are encoded using a second codec. The encoder may further encode supplemental information in the data. The supplemental information is used by the decoder to determine a transition between the first and second portion(s). The decoder can thus anticipate the transition and properly switch the codec used to decode the data in real-time. Techniques described herein are also directed to the splicing of locally-stored content into content received from a remotely-located source. For example, targeted advertisements that are stored locally may be played back during commercial breaks of live content. The locally-stored targeted advertisements may replace the commercials provided via the remotely-located source.

TL;DR: A candidate codec for ITU-T Embedded Variable Bit Rates (EV-VBR) standardization designed by Speech and Audio Signal Processing Laboratory (SASPL) of Beijing University of Technology is improved and the second sub-frame's spectral parameters are quantized additionally to improve the overall quantization precision.
Abstract: A candidate codec for ITU-T Embedded Variable Bit Rates (EV-VBR) standardization designed by Speech and Audio Signal Processing Laboratory (SASPL) of Beijing University of Technology is improved in this paper. In the improved codec, the second sub-frame's spectral parameters are quantized additionally to improve the overall quantization precision. Depth-first tree search algorithm replaces the full search and focus search in searching algebraic codebook. Transformation coding (TCX) process is redesigned and applied into the higher three layers which reduces the algorithm complexity dramatically. The objective mean opinion score (MOS) test results show that the improved codec achieves comparable speech quality as G.718 recommendation codec in most test items and has a lower algorithm delay.
