TL;DR: In this paper, the Lagrangian of the Bose field without derivative interactions has been derived without specifying the explicit forms of Lagrangians, and a simple formula of the two-loop counter-terms for Bose Field theories has been given.
Abstract: A few years ago, in the scheme of continuous dimensional regularization (~), 'T H00FT derived a general algorithm (2) to calculate the counter-terms which eliminate one-loop ul traviolet divergences without integrations. I t has simplified many kinds of calculations of one-loop counter-terms for the theories of gravi ta t ion (8-5), the nonlinear ~-model (6) ~nd the Lagrangians obtained from the Regge-slopc expansion of the dual models (7). The success in deriving the simple algorithm is deeply due to exploiting the background field method (s). Wi th the aid of this method, i t becomes possible to give general expressions of the counter-terms without specifying the explicit forms of Lagrangians. I t may be natura l to ask whether such an algori thm exists also for the counter-terms of multiloop diagrams. The purpose of this note is to show tha t we can really derive a very simple formula of the two-loop counter-terms for Bose field theories without derivat ive interactions. This formula will be also useful, since i t reduce tedious and nontr ivial calculations to those of several lines. Let the Lagrangian of the Bose field A~ without derivat ive interactions be 5e[A]. Next we spli t A~ into two parts , namely classical fields B~ and quantum fields ~0~, i.e. A~-.B i § ~oi, and expand the Lagrangian around B
