TL;DR: In this paper, the authors describe the physics of σcffff Q in quantum critical metals obtained by charge doping a strongly interacting conformal field theory and show that it satisfies an Einstein relation and controls the diffusivity of conserved charge in the metal.
Abstract: In a clean quantum critical metal, and in the absence of umklapp, most d.c. conductivities are formally infinite due to momentum conservation. However, there is a particular combination of the charge and heat currents which has a finite, universal conductivity. In this paper, we describe the physics of this conductivity σ Q in quantum critical metals obtained by charge doping a strongly interacting conformal field theory. We show that it satisfies an Einstein relation and controls the diffusivity of a conserved charge in the metal. We compute σ Q in a class of theories with holographic gravitational duals. Finally, we show how the temperature scaling of σ Q depends on certain critical exponents characterizing the quantum critical metal. The holographic results are found to be reproduced by the scaling analysis, with the charge density operator becoming marginal in the emergent low energy quantum critical theory.

TL;DR: In this article, two closed-form expansions for the four-point Virasoro conformal blocks on the sphere, for arbitrary operator dimensions and central charge c, were provided.
Abstract: Virasoro conformal blocks are fixed in principle by symmetry, but a closed-form expression is unknown in the general case. In this work, we provide two new closed-form expansions for the four-point Virasoro blocks on the sphere, for arbitrary operator dimensions and central charge c. We do so by solving known recursion relations. One representation is a sum over hypergeometric global blocks, whose coefficients we provide at arbitrary level. The other is a sum over semiclassical Virasoro blocks obtained in the limit in which two external operator dimensions scale linearly with large c. In both cases, the 1/c expansion of the Virasoro blocks is easily extracted. We discuss applications of these expansions to entanglement and thermality in conformal field theories and particle scattering in three-dimensional quantum gravity.

TL;DR: In this article, the authors considered the holographic correspondence near the horizon of big four-dimensional black holes preserving four supersymmetries in toroidally compactified Type-II string theory.
Abstract: We consider the AdS 2 /CFT 1 holographic correspondence near the horizon of big four-dimensional black holes preserving four supersymmetries in toroidally compactified Type-II string theory. The boundary partition function of CFT 1 is given by the known quantum degeneracies of these black holes. The bulk partition function is given by a functional integral over string fields in AdS 2. Using recent results on localization we reduce the infinite-dimensional functional integral to a finite number of ordinary integrals over a space of localizing instantons. Under reasonable assumptions about the relevant terms in the effective action, these integrals can be evaluated exactly to obtain a bulk partition function. It precisely reproduces all terms in the exact Rademacher expansion of the boundary partition function as nontrivial functions of charges except for the Kloosterman sum which can in principle follow from an analysis of phases in the background of orbifolded instantons. Our results can be regarded as a step towards proving ‘exact holography’ in that the bulk and boundary partition functions computed independently agree for finite charges. Since the bulk partition function defines the quantum entropy of the black hole, our results enable the evaluation of perturbative as well as nonperturbative quantum corrections to the Bekenstein-Hawking-Wald entropy of these black holes.

TL;DR: In this paper, it was shown that extremal n-point functions of chiral primary operators are sensitive to mixing of single trace operators with protected multi-trace operators in the same representation of SU(4).
Abstract: The non-renormalization of the 3-point functions $tr X^{k_1} tr X^{k_2} tr X^{k_3}$ of chiral primary operators in N=4 super-Yang-Mills theory is one of the most striking facts to emerge from the AdS/CFT correspondence. A two-fold puzzle appears in the extremal case, e.g. k_1 = k_2 + k_3. First, the supergravity calculation involves analytic continuation in the k_i variables to define the product of a vanishing bulk coupling and an infinite integral over AdS. Second, extremal correlators are uniquely sensitive to mixing of the single-trace operators $tr X^k$ with protected multi-trace operators in the same representation of SU(4). We show that the calculation of extremal correlators from supergravity is subject to the same subtlety of regularization known for the 2-point functions, and we present a careful method which justifies the analytic continuation and shows that supergravity fields couple to single traces without admixture. We also study extremal n-point functions of chiral primary operators, and argue that Type IIB supergravity requires that their space-time form is a product of n-1 two-point functions (as in the free field approximation) multiplied by a non-renormalized coefficient. This non-renormalization property of extremal n-point functions is a new prediction of the AdS/CFT correspondence. As a byproduct of this work we obtain the cubic couplings $t \phi \phi$ and $s \phi \phi$ of fields in the dilaton and 5-sphere graviton towers of Type IIB supergravity on $AdS_5 \times S^5$.
