TL;DR: In this paper, the authors show that there is an exact correspondence between the fifth-dimensional coordinate of AdS space z and a specific impact variable {zeta} which measures the separation of the quark and gluonic constituents within the hadron in ordinary space-time.
Abstract: The AdS/CFT correspondence between string theory in AdS space and conformal field theories in physical space-time leads to an analytic, semi-classical model for strongly-coupled QCD which has scale invariance and dimensional counting at short distances and color confinement at large distances. The AdS/CFT correspondence also provides insights into the inherently nonperturbative aspects of QCD such as the orbital and radial spectra of hadrons and the form of hadronic wavefunctions. In particular, we show that there is an exact correspondence between the fifth-dimensional coordinate of AdS space z and a specific impact variable {zeta} which measures the separation of the quark and gluonic constituents within the hadron in ordinary space-time. This connection leads to AdS/CFT predictions for the analytic form of the frame-independent light-front wavefunctions (LFWFs) of mesons and baryons, the fundamental entities which encode hadron properties. The LFWFs in turn predict decay constants and spin correlations, as well as dynamical quantities such as form factors, structure functions, generalized parton distributions, and exclusive scattering amplitudes. Relativistic light-front equations in ordinary space-time are found which reproduce the results obtained using the fifth-dimensional theory and have remarkable algebraic structures and integrability properties. As specific examples we describe the behavior of the pion formmore » factor in the space and time-like regions and determine the Dirac nucleon form factors in the space-like region. An extension to nonzero quark mass is used to determine hadronic distribution amplitudes of all mesons, heavy and light. We compare our results with the moments of the distribution amplitudes which have recently been computed from lattice gauge theory.« less

TL;DR: In this article, it was shown that the quantum spectral curve formalism can be extended to the generalized cusp anomalous dimension for all values of the parameters, and that the large spectral parameter asymptotics and some analyticity properties have to be modified.
Abstract: We show that the Quantum Spectral Curve (QSC) formalism, initially formulated for the spectrum of anomalous dimensions of all local single trace operators in $$ \mathcal{N}=4 $$ SYM, can be extended to the generalized cusp anomalous dimension for all values of the parameters. We find that the large spectral parameter asymptotics and some analyticity properties have to be modified, but the functional relations are unchanged. As a demonstration, we find an all-loop analytic expression for the first two nontrivial terms in the small |ϕ ± θ| expansion. We also present nonperturbative numerical results at generic angles which match perfectly 4-loop perturbation theory and the classical string prediction. The reformulation of the problem in terms of the QSC opens the possibility to explore many open questions. We attach to this paper several Mathematica notebooks which should facilitate future studies.

TL;DR: In this article, it was shown that the long-distance effective field theory of our universe has a unique 4D vacuum, but it also has a landscape of lower-dimensional vacua, with the potential for moduli arising from vacuum and Casimir energies.
Abstract: The long-distance effective field theory of our Universe—the Standard Model coupled to gravity—has a unique 4D vacuum, but we show that it also has a landscape of lower-dimensional vacua, with the potential for moduli arising from vacuum and Casimir energies. For minimal Majorana neutrino masses, we find a near-continuous infinity of AdS3 × S1 vacua, with circumference ~ 20 microns and AdS3 length 4 × 1025 m. By AdS/CFT, there is a CFT2 of central charge c ~ 1090 which contains the Standard Model (and beyond) coupled to quantum gravity in this vacuum. Physics in these vacua is the same as in ours for energies between 10−1 eV and 1048 GeV, so this CFT2 also describes all the physics of our vacuum in this energy range. We show that it is possible to realize quantum-stabilized AdS vacua as near-horizon regions of new kinds of quantum extremal black objects in the higher-dimensional space—near critical black strings in 4D, near-critical black holes in 3D. The violation of the null-energy condition by the Casimir energy is crucial for these horizons to exist, as has already been realized for analogous non-extremal 3D black holes by Emparan, Fabbri and Kaloper. The new extremal 3D black holes are particularly interesting—they are (meta)stable with an entropy independent of and GN, so a microscopic counting of the entropy may be possible in the GN → 0 limit. Our results suggest that it should be possible to realize the larger landscape of AdS vacua in string theory as near-horizon geometries of new extremal black brane solutions.

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors study various aspects of the M-theory uplift of the AN −1 series of (2, 0) CFTs in 6d, which describe the world volume theory of N M5 branes in flat space.
Abstract: We study various aspects of the M-theory uplift of the AN −1 series of (2, 0) CFTs in 6d, which describe the worldvolume theory of N M5 branes in flat space. We show how knowledge of OPE coefficients and scaling dimensions for this CFT can be directly translated into features of the momentum expansion of M-theory. In particular, we develop the expansion of the four-graviton S-matrix in M-theory via the flat space limit of four-point Mellin amplitudes. This includes correctly reproducing the known contribution of the R4 term from 6d CFT data. Central to the calculation are the OPE coefficients for half-BPS operators not in the stress tensor multiplet, which we obtain for finite N via the previously conjectured relation [1] between the quantum $$ {\mathcal{W}}_N $$ algebra and the AN −1 (2, 0) CFT. We further explain how the 1/N expansion of $$ {\mathcal{W}}_N $$ structure constants exhibits the structure of protected vertices in the M-theory action. Conversely, our results provide strong evidence for the chiral algebra conjecture.

TL;DR: In this article, the exclusion principle of Maldacena and Strominger is seen to follow from deformed Heisenberg algebras associated with the chiral rings of SN orbifold CFTs.
Abstract: The exclusion principle of Maldacena and Strominger is seen to follow from deformed Heisenberg algebras associated with the chiral rings of SN orbifold CFTs. These deformed algebras are related to quantum groups at roots of unity, and are interpreted as algebras of space-time field creation and annihilation operators. We also propose, as space-time origin of the stringy exclusion principle, that the AdS3 × S3 space-time of the associated six-dimensional supergravity theory acquires, when quantum effects are taken into account, a non-commutative structure given by SUq(1,1) × SUq(2). Both remarks imply that finite N effects are captured by quantum groups SLq(2) with q = eiπ/(N+1). This implies that a proper framework for the theories in question is given by gravity on a non-commutative spacetime with a q-deformation of field oscillators. An interesting consequence of this framework is a holographic interpretation for a product structure in the space of all unitary representations of the non-compact quantum group SUq(1,1) at roots of unity.
