TL;DR: In this article, the role of null states in the evolution of the Page curve has been investigated, and it has been shown that the dimension of the asymptotically AdS Hilbert space turns out to be a random variable Z, whose value can be less than the naive number k of independent states.
Abstract: In the 1980’s, work by Coleman and by Giddings and Strominger linked the physics of spacetime wormholes to ‘baby universes’ and an ensemble of theories. We revisit such ideas, using features associated with a negative cosmological constant and asymptotically AdS boundaries to strengthen the results, introduce a change in perspective, and connect with recent replica wormhole discussions of the Page curve. A key new feature is an emphasis on the role of null states. We explore this structure in detail in simple topological models of the bulk that allow us to compute the full spectrum of associated boundary theories. The dimension of the asymptotically AdS Hilbert space turns out to become a random variable Z , whose value can be less than the naive number k of independent states in the theory. For k > Z , consistency arises from an exact degeneracy in the inner product defined by the gravitational path integral, so that many a priori independent states differ only by a null state. We argue that a similar property must hold in any consistent gravitational path integral. We also comment on other aspects of extrapolations to more complicated models, and on possible implications for the black hole information problem in the individual members of the above ensemble.

TL;DR: In this paper, a model of 3+1 dimensional gravity with negative cosmological constant coupled to abelian gauge fields has been proposed as a gravity dual for Lifshitz like critical phenomena in 2+1 dimensions.
Abstract: A model of 3+1 dimensional gravity with negative cosmological constant coupled to abelian gauge fields has been proposed as a gravity dual for Lifshitz like critical phenomena in 2+1 dimensions. The finite temperature behavior is described by black holes that are asymptotic to the Lifshitz fixed point geometry. There is a one-parameter family of charged black holes, where the magnitude of the charge is uniquely determined by the black hole area. These black holes are thermodynamically stable and become extremal in the limit of vanishing size. The theory also has a discrete spectrum of localized objects described by non-singular spacetime geometries. The finite temperature behavior of Wilson loops is reminiscent of strongly coupled gauge theories in 3+1 dimensions, including screening at large distances.

TL;DR: In this article, a tree level superstring theory on certain supersymmetric backgrounds admits a symmetry which we call ''fermionic T-duality'' which is a non-local redefinition of the fermionic worldsheet fields similar to the redefinition we perform on bosonic variables when we do an ordinary Tduality.
Abstract: We show that tree level superstring theories on certain supersymmetric backgrounds admit a symmetry which we call ``fermionic T-duality''. This is a non-local redefinition of the fermionic worldsheet fields similar to the redefinition we perform on bosonic variables when we do an ordinary T-duality. This duality maps a supersymmetric background to another supersymmetric background with different RR fields and a different dilaton. We show that a certain combination of bosonic and fermionic T-dualities maps the full superstring theory on AdS5 × S5 back to itself in such a way that gluon scattering amplitudes in the original theory map to something very close to Wilson loops in the dual theory. This duality maps the ``dual superconformal symmetry'' of the original theory to the ordinary superconformal symmetry of the dual model. This explains the dual superconformal invariance of planar scattering amplitudes of N = 4 super Yang Mills and also sheds some light on the connection between amplitudes and Wilson loops. In the appendix, we propose a simple prescription for open superstring MHV tree amplitudes in a flat background.

TL;DR: The non-linear W∞(µ) symmetry algebra underlies the duality between the WN minimal model CFTs and the higher spin theory on AdS3 as discussed by the authors.
Abstract: The non-linear W∞(µ) symmetry algebra underlies the duality between the WN minimal model CFTs and the hs(µ) higher spin theory on AdS3. It is shown how the structure of this symmetry algebra at the quantum level, i.e. for finite central charge, can be determined completely. The resulting algebra exhibits an exact equivalence (a 'triality') between three (generically) distinct values of the parameter µ. This explains, among other things, the agreement of symmetries between the WN minimal models and the bulk higher spin theory. We also study the consequences of this triality for some of the simplest W∞(µ) representations, thereby clarifying the analytic continuation between the 'light states' of the minimal models and conical defect solutions in the bulk. These considerations also lead us to propose that one of the two scalar fields in the bulk actually has a non-perturbative origin.

TL;DR: In this article, the authors show how to construct these bulk observables by requiring that the bulk operators commute at spacelike separation, which is related to bulk Feynman diagrams.
Abstract: Local operators in the bulk of anti-de Sitter can be represented as smeared operators in the dual conformal field theory. We show how to construct these bulk observables by requiring that the bulk operators commute at spacelike separation. This extends our previous work by taking interactions into account. Large-N factorization plays a key role in the construction. We show diagrammatically how this procedure is related to bulk Feynman diagrams.
