TL;DR: In this article, the authors present a dictionary of non-local CFT operators whose duals are simple, diffeomorphism-invariant bulk operators, such as the modular Hamiltonian, which is dual to the fluctuation in the area of a minimal surface.
Abstract: We present the foundation for a holographic dictionary with depth perception. The dictionary consists of natural CFT operators whose duals are simple, diffeomorphisminvariant bulk operators. The CFT operators of interest are the “OPE blocks,” contributions to the OPE from a single conformal family. In holographic theories, we show that the OPE blocks are dual at leading order in 1/N to integrals of effective bulk fields along geodesics or homogeneous minimal surfaces in anti-de Sitter space. One widely studied example of an OPE block is the modular Hamiltonian, which is dual to the fluctuation in the area of a minimal surface. Thus, our operators pave the way for generalizing the Ryu-Takayanagi relation to other bulk fields. Although the OPE blocks are non-local operators in the CFT, they admit a simple geometric description as fields in kinematic space — the space of pairs of CFT points. We develop the tools for constructing local bulk operators in terms of these non-local objects. The OPE blocks also allow for conceptually clean and technically simple derivations of many results known in the literature, including linearized Einstein’s equations and the relation between conformal blocks and geodesic Witten diagrams.

TL;DR: In this paper, the poles of the retarded thermal Green's functions of N=4 SU(N) supersymmetric Yang-Mills theory in the limit of large N and large ’t Hooft coupling were found.
Abstract: We use the Lorentzian AdS/CFT prescription to find the poles of the retarded thermal Green’s functions of N=4 SU(N) supersymmetric Yang-Mills theory in the limit of large N and large ’t Hooft coupling. In the process, we propose a natural definition for quasinormal modes in an asymptotically AdS spacetime, with boundary conditions dictated by the AdS/CFT correspondence. The corresponding frequencies determine the dispersion laws for the quasiparticle excitations in the dual finite-temperature gauge theory. Correlation functions of operators dual to massive scalar, vector and gravitational perturbations in a five-dimensional AdS-Schwarzschild background are considered. We find asymptotic formulas for quasinormal frequencies in the massive scalar and tensor cases, and an exact expression for vector perturbations. In the long-distance, low-frequency limit we recover results of the hydrodynamic approximation to thermal Yang-Mills theory.

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors revisited the question of reconstructing bulk gauge fields as boundary operators in AdS/CFT, and argued that this leads to a new argument for the "principle of completeness" which states that the charge lattice of a gauge theory coupled to gravity must be fully populated.
Abstract: This paper revisits the question of reconstructing bulk gauge fields as boundary operators in AdS/CFT. In the presence of the wormhole dual to the thermofield double state of two CFTs, the existence of bulk gauge fields is in some tension with the microscopic tensor factorization of the Hilbert space. I explain how this tension can be resolved by splitting the gauge field into charged constituents, and I argue that this leads to a new argument for the “principle of completeness”, which states that the charge lattice of a gauge theory coupled to gravity must be fully populated. I also claim that it leads to a new motivation for (and a clarification of) the “weak gravity conjecture”, which I interpret as a strengthening of this principle. This setup gives a simple example of a situation where describing low-energy bulk physics in CFT language requires knowledge of high-energy bulk physics. This contradicts to some extent the notion of “effective conformal field theory”, but in fact is an expected feature of the resolution of the black hole information problem. An analogous factorization issue exists also for the gravitational field, and I comment on several of its implications for reconstructing black hole interiors and the emergence of spacetime more generally.

TL;DR: In this paper, a set of tools that can be used to explore the superconformal phases of non-Lagrangian Lagrangian theories are described. And they are applied to explain the contribution of such non-lagrangians to the NSVZ β-function and elucidate the counting of marginal deformations.
Abstract: In theories without known Lagrangian descriptions, knowledge of the global symmetries is often one of the few pieces of information we have at our disposal. Gauging (part of) such global symmetries can then lead to interesting new theories, which are usually still quite mysterious. In this work, we describe a set of tools that can be used to explore the superconformal phases of these theories. In particular, we describe the contribution of such non-Lagrangian sectors to the NSVZ β-function, and elucidate the counting of marginal deformations. We apply our techniques to $$ \mathcal{N} $$ = 1 theories obtained by mass deformations of the $$ \mathcal{N} $$ = 2 conformal theories recently found by Gaiotto. Because the basic building block of these theories is a triskelion, or trivalent vertex, we dub them “Sicilian gauge theories.” We identify these $$ \mathcal{N} $$ = 1 theories as compactifications of the six-dimensional A N (2, 0) theory on Riemann surfaces with punctures and SU(2) Wilson lines. These theories include the holographic duals of the $$ \mathcal{N} $$ = 1 supergravity solutions found by Maldacena and Nunez.

TL;DR: In this article, the authors investigated the integrability of the AdS 3/CFT 2 correspondence for theories with 16 supercharges and constructed Green-Schwarz actions based on a Z4 automorphism of the super-coset D(2, 1; α) × D(1, 2) × SO(3)×SO(3).
Abstract: We investigate the AdS 3/CFT 2 correspondence for theories with 16 supercharges using the integrability approach. We construct Green-Schwarz actions for Type IIB strings on AdS 3 × S 3× M 4 where M 4 = T 4 or S 3 × S 1 using the coset approach. These actions are based on a Z4 automorphism of the super-coset D(2, 1; α) × D(2, 1; α)/SO(1, 2) × SO(3)×SO(3). The equations of motion admit a representation in terms of a Lax connection, showing that the system is classically integrable. We present the finite gap equations for these actions. When α = 0, 1/2, 1 we propose a set of quantum Bethe equations valid at all values of the coupling. The AdS 3/CFT 2 duals contain novel massless modes whose role remains to be explored.
