TL;DR: In this paper, a method for controlling the ratio of fuel and air to be supplied to a main burner by a method wherein ambient gas within a furnace body is induced in an afterburner to be re-burnt by supplying the predetermined amount of combustion air and the controlling of said ratio is performed in accordance with the measured result of the oxygen concentration in the resultant combustion gas.
Abstract: PURPOSE:To control the ratio of fuel and air to be supplied to a main burner by a method wherein ambient gas within a furnace body is induced in an afterburner to be re-burnt by supplying the predetermined amount of combustion air and the controlling of said ratio is performed in accordance with the measured result of the oxygen concentration in the resultant combustion gas. CONSTITUTION:A part of the ambient gas within the furnace body 1 is induced in the afterburner 14 by means of a proportioning feed pump 13 and burnt by constantly supplying the combustion air with a proportioning feed pump 15. The measuring signal, which is generated by the value of oxygen concentration in the combustion exhaust gas measured with an O2 analyzer 16, is compared with the set signal of a fuel air ratio setter 11 by means of an O2 regulator 12 in order to input the difference signal between the two signals just mentioned above to a ratio setter 10 so as to automatcially control the set ratio of the ratio setter 10 in proportion to the oxygen concentration.

TL;DR: In this article, a turbojet engine is provided with an afterburn unit having non-deformable flame catcher arms, in which each flame catcher arm has a streamlined cross-section which is sharp at its upstream end and convexly curved at its downstream end.
Abstract: A turbojet engine is provided with an afterburn unit having non-deformable flame catcher arms 10, in which each flame catcher arm 10 has a streamlined cross-section which is sharp at its upstream end 22 and convexly curved at its downstream end 23, and the final stage of vanes 7 of the turbine blading each has an upstream part 24 which is fixed relative to the engine structure and a downstream part 25 which is pivotable between a first configuration, in which it extends substantially in a radial plane 28 containing the engine axis, and a second configuration, in which it is oriented in a direction K which is oblique to the said radial plane 28. The arrangement provides for turbulence production to facilitate mixing of gases during afterburner operation, and a low-drag configuration when afterburner operation is not required.

TL;DR: In this article, a simplified gross thrust computing technique for the HiMAT J85-GE-21 engine using altitude facility data was evaluated and the results over the full engine envelope for both the standard engine mode and the open nozzle engine mode were presented.
Abstract: A simplified gross thrust computing technique for the HiMAT J85-GE-21 engine using altitude facility data was evaluated. The results over the full engine envelope for both the standard engine mode and the open nozzle engine mode are presented. Results using afterburner casing static pressure taps are compared to those using liner static pressure taps. It is found that the technique is very accurate for both the standard and open nozzle engine modes. The difference in the algorithm accuracy for a calibration based on data from one test condition was small compared to a calibration based on data from all of the test conditions.

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors proposed a non-premixed central air supply multi-tube gas afterburner, which can be used for stable burning in high speed flue gas flow area, the temperature is uniformly distributed, the length of a waste heat boiler inlet flue can be shortened, and accordingly the cost is reduced.
Abstract: The invention provides a non-premixed central air supply multi-tube gas afterburner. A cylinder is a section of metal tube; two end holes of the tube are in closed connection with an air side disk and a flue gas side disk respectively; centers of the air side disk and the flue gas side disk are provided with a through hole; an air nozzle is connected into the through hole in a closed mode and communicated in the length direction; the flue gas side disk is provided with six gas nozzles which are uniformly distributed on a circular ring with the air nozzle as the center; a hole formed at a cylinder position which is not communicated with the air nozzle is in closed connection with a gas inlet tube. According to the non-premixed central air supply multi-tube gas afterburner, the basic structure is simple, the suitable afterburning quantity demand range is large, stable burning can be performed in a high speed flue gas flow area, the temperature is uniformly distributed, the length of a waste heat boiler inlet flue can be shortened, and accordingly the cost is reduced.
