29 Apr 2005TL;DR: A turbojet engine includes a core engine, an afterburner, and a converging-diverging exhaust nozzle in serial flow communication as discussed by the authors, and a controller is operatively joined to the core engine and after-burner and configured for scheduling fuel for operating the after burners dry during subsonic flight operation of the engine, wet during transonic flight, and dry during supersonic flight.
Abstract: A turbojet engine includes a core engine, an afterburner, and a converging-diverging exhaust nozzle in serial flow communication. A controller is operatively joined to the core engine and afterburner and configured for scheduling fuel thereto for operating the afterburner dry during subsonic flight operation of the engine, wet during transonic flight, and dry during supersonic flight.

25 May 1970TL;DR: In this article, an afterburner for a gas turbine engine comprising fuel injectors and concentric, annular, V-shaped gutters which function as flameholders is shown.
Abstract: The disclosure shows an afterburner for a gas turbine engine comprising fuel injectors and concentric, annular, V-shaped gutters which function as flameholders. Links are pivotally mounted at their opposite ends to the gutters and to beams. The beams are pivoted on the outer casing of the afterburner and align the pivot axes of the links and the bisectors of the gutters with the direction of hot gas flow toward the gutters in the ''''hot'''' condition of the afterburner to prevent twisting of the gutters when their material strength is weakest.

TL;DR: In this article, an embodiment of the invention includes an exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) valve, an intake pipe, and an afterburner, which captures and burns large particles contained in the exhaust gas stream to prevent obstruction of the EGR valve.
Abstract: An embodiment of the invention includes an exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) valve, an intake pipe, and an afterburner. As the intake valve communicates an exhaust gas stream to an EGR valve, an afterburner affixed to an inside wall of the intake pipe captures and burns large particles contained in the exhaust gas stream to prevent obstruction of the EGR valve.
