Abstract: Sibela Mount Natural Reserve is located in South Halmahera, North Moluccas, Indonesia. It covers a 23 232 ha area of coastal forest, lowland rain forest and highland rain forest. The altitude range between 0 m to 2 110 m. above sea level (asl). Orchid exploration and inventory were conducted to study orchid diversity and distribution on this conservation areas. Observation on the population of epiphyte orchids was also done to study the dominant orchid in that area. It was recorded that there were 30 orchid species belonging to 14 genera (i.e. Aerides, Agrostophyllum, Bulbophyllum, Coelogyne, Dendrobium, Diplocaulobium, Eria, Flickingeria, Luisia, Pomatocalpa, Phreatia, Thelasis, Trichoglottis and Vandopsis) which were genera is the member of Epidendroideae subfamily. The genus with the highest frequency (44.59 %) was Dendrobium. Regarding elevation, the highest distribution of the epiphytic orchids in coastal forest and lowland rain forest ecosystem at 0 m to 600 m. asl.

Abstract: Agrostophyllanthrol and isoagrostophyllanthrol, two novel diastereomeric phenanthropyran derivatives were isolated from the orchid Agrostophyllum khasiyanum which earlier afforded eleven stilbenoids, viz. the two dimeric phenanthrene derivatives agrostonin [2,2',7,7'-tetrahydroxy-4,4',6,6'-tetrainethoxy-1,1'-biphenanthryl] and agrostonidin [2,2',6,6'-tetrahydroxy-4,4',7,7'-tetramethoxy-1,1'-biphenanthryl], eight phenanthropyran derivatives imbricatin [2,7-dihydroxy-6-methoxy-9,10-dihydro-5H-phenanthro[4,5-bcd]pyran], agrostophyllidin [7-hydroxy-2,6-dimethoxy-9,10-dihydro-5H-phenanthro[4,5-bcd]pyran], agrostophylloxidin [7-hydroxy-2,5,6-trimethoxy-5H-phenanthro[4,5-bcd]pyran], flaccidinin [2,6-dihydroxy-7-methoxy-5H-phenanthro[4,5-bcd]pyran-5-one], isoflaccidinin [2,7-dihydroxy-6-methoxy-5H-phenanthro[4,5-bcd]pyran-5-one], agrostophyllin [7-hydroxy-2,6-dimethoxy-5H-phenanthro[4,5-bcd]pyran], agrostophyllone [7-hydroxy-2,6-dimethoxy-5H-phenanthro[4,5-bcd]pyran-5-one], agrostophylloxin [2,6,7-trimethoxy-5H-pheaanthro[4,5-bcd]pyran-5-one] and the bibenzyl derivative moscatalin [4,4'-dihydroxy-3,3',5-trimethoxybibenzyl]. The structures of agrostophyllanthrol and isoagrostophyllanthrol were established as 7-hydroxy-2,6-dimethoxy-5H-phenanthro[4,5-bcd]pyran-5(equat)ol and 7-hydroxy-2,6-dimethoxy-5H-phenanthro[4,5-bcd]pyran-5(ax)ol, respectively from various spectral and chemical evidence. Agrostophyllanthrol and isoagrostophyllanthrol, thus, represent two novel examples of otherwise conformational isomers becoming highly stable diastereomers due to unusual steric hindrance to conformational flipping.

Abstract: Study on the orchids diversity was conducted in Situ Gunung, sub district of Kadudampit, district of Sukabumi, West Java. There were 41 collection numbers, consist of 18 terrestrial orchids, 22 epiphyte orchids, and one saprophyte orchid, belong to 26 genera and 41 species. There were eight species of flowering orchids and the rest were not at flowering stage. Agrostophyllum bicuspidatum J.J.Sm, Plocoglottis acuminata Bl dan Appendicula sp. were commonly found at Situ Gunung. Species orchid of Calanthe triplicata (Willemet) Ames and Plocoglottis acuminata Bl found in a clumped group. Tainia elongata J.J. Abstract: Continuing studies of West Malesian material of Agrostophyllum reveals nine new species and one new synonym. Agrostophyllum tenue J.J. Sm. is found to be a synonym of A. javanicum Blume. The new taxa proposed are A. agusanense, A. bialatum, A. dewildeorum, A. edanoanum, A. emwoodiae, A. inflatum, A. loheri, A. urdanetae, and A. vulcanicum.

Abstract: The aims of the research were to identify epiphytic orchid diversity and host tree species for the development of orchid tourism trails as a potential tourist attraction in UB Forest. A Floristic survey and questionnaires were conducted in this study. Nine epiphytic orchids were found in UB Forest, namely Liparis viridiflora, Eria hyacinthoides, Aerides sp., Coelogyne sp., Dendrobium lineairifolium , Agrostophyllum sp., Sarcanthus sp., Flickingeria sp. and Eria monostachya . These epiphytic orchids used Dadap ( Erythrina sp.), Jalina ( Ficus sp.), Kukrup ( Engelhardtia spicata ) and Cempaka wangi ( Michelia champaca ) as host species, from Gate 1 to Gunung Mujur Point in UB Forest. Analysis showed that improvement including preserving and improving the population of host tree species, establishing interpretation media for educational purposes, and improving the attractiveness of tourist attractions and facilities, could provide an opportunity to develop an eco-tourism route.
