TL;DR: In this article, basic physical and chemical characteristics of air pollutants are discussed and methods for calculating and expressing air pollutant concentrations are provided, as well as the process that leads to the formation and transformation of substances that ultimately become air pollutants.
Abstract: Basic physical and chemical characteristics of air pollutants are discussed. Methods for calculating and expressing air pollutant concentrations are provided. The chapter also introduces the process that leads to the formation and transformation of substances that ultimately become air pollutants. Formation kinetics, the rate laws, and rate order are discussed, along with the various types of reactions involved in air pollutant formation and transformation. Nonchemical, especially biological, pollutants are also discussed.
