TL;DR: Alcohol fuel conversion apparatus for internal combustion engines including a fuel tank, a fuel pump, a primary heat exchanger, a heat source, a converter and a carburetor are described in this article.
Abstract: Alcohol fuel conversion apparatus for internal combustion engines including a fuel tank, a fuel pump, a primary heat exchanger, a heat source, a converter and a carburetor. The pump delivers pressurized liquid alcohol to the primary heat exchanger where the alcohol fuel is heated above the vaporization point at ambient pressure. The heated fuel is next delivered to the converter where the super-heated liquid alcohol is vaporized at reduced pressure. The alcohol is then delivered to the carburetor where the vaporized alcohol is metered and mixed with air for proper combustion. The air-fuel mixture, in gaseous form is then delivered to the intake system of a conventional internal combustion engine. A fuel pre-heater assembly utilizing waste heat from the engine may also be provided.

Abstract: Blends of up to 40% by volume methanol in a methanol-gasoline fuel blend were supplied to a single cylinder engine operating under controlled conditions The following effects are reported as the methanol concentration increases The lean misfire limit is extended 004 equivalence ratio, phi, by using a blend containing 40% methanol compared to the base fuel It is also noted that the lean misfire limit does not vary until a blend containing greater than 20% methanol was used Torque and thermal efficiency increase significantly Percent by volume concentrations of carbon monoxide, carbon dioxide and oxides of nitrogen do not change, although oxides of nitrogen reported as mass per power output per hour decrease

TL;DR: In this paper, a carbon monoxide reducing device of a solid polymer fuel cell capable of reducing carbon dioxide in efficient, simple constitution, and providing its operating method is presented, where a carbon dioxide oxidizing catalyst layer 30 is arranged in the downstream position than the oxygen or air introducing portion.
Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a carbon monoxide reducing device of solid polymer fuel cell capable of reducing carbon monoxide in efficient, simple constitution, and provide its operating method. SOLUTION: In a device for oxidizing and reducing carbon monoxide in a reformed gas in a solid polymer fuel cell containing a fuel reforming system for reforming hydrocarbon or alcohol fuel with a catalyst, a means 38 for introducing oxygen or air into a region where the temperature of the reformed gas is 100-150 deg.C is arranged, and a carbon monoxide oxidizing catalyst layer 30 is arranged in the downstream position than the oxygen or air introducing portion.
