Abstract: Conventional and alternative automotive fuels are analyzed and discussed in this article. The refining of gasoline, its nature as a complex mixture of hydrocarbons, and many of its characteristics are examined. The differences between gasoline and oxygenate-containing fuels are outlined. Ways of improving and modifying diesel fuels are explored, and the effects of sulfur on fuel is discussed. Engine tests are conducted using mixtures of diesel fuel with vegetable oils and ethanol, separately, but more are needed to define their applicability better.

TL;DR: In this paper, an ignition promotor, dimethyl ether (DME), is used to increase the cetane rating of methanol, which matches the performance characteristics of diesel oil fuel.
Abstract: Reduction of the world dependence upon crude oil necessitates the use of long term alternative fuels for internal combustion engines Alcohols appear to offer a solution as in the short term they can be manufactured from natural gas and coal, while ultimately they may be produced from agricultural products A fair measure of success has been achieved in using alcohols in spark ignition engines However the more widely used compression ignition engines cannot utilize unmodified pure alcohols The current techniques for using alcohol fuels in compression ignition engines all have a number of shortcomings This paper describes a novel technique where an ignition promotor, dimethyl ether (DME), is used to increase the cetane rating of methanol The systems particular advantage is that the DME can be catalyzed from the methanol base fuel, in situ This fuel system matches the performance characteristics of diesel oil fuel

TL;DR: In this article, the experimental conducts in producing ethanol fuel from agricultural products (corn, guinea corn, and millet shaft) that are an easy source in Nigeria and to compare the performance of the fuel with gasoline based on the characteristics of the ethanol fuel produced.
Abstract: The concern for efficient use of clean and alternative sources of energy other than fossil fuel has gathered rapid momentum all over the world. The most interesting development is the growing realization that ethanol is an alternative source to fuel and lubricants derived from the liquid fuel. This work, therefore, focuses on the experimental conducts in producing ethanol fuel from agricultural products (corn, guinea corn, and millet shaft) that are an easy source in Nigeria and to compare the performance of the fuel with gasoline based on the characteristics of the ethanol fuel produced. The agricultural products (corn, guinea corn, and millet shaft) were hydrolyzed using an alkaline treatment and acid hydrolysis; subsequent fermentation of simple sugars obtained from hydrolysis by yeast (Saccharomyces cerevisiae) produced bio ethanol and CO 2 . Results obtained revealed that the production of bio-ethanol was successfully carried out. One hundred grams each of the three samples gave yields of 65...

TL;DR: In this paper, a steel plate having an Ni or Ni-Co plated layer or further subjected to chromate treatment as a material for a tank for fuel such as gasoline contg.
Abstract: PURPOSE: To enhance the corrosion resistance to fuel by using a steel plate having an Ni or Ni-Co plated layer or further subjected to chromate treatment as a material for a tank for fuel such as gasoline contg. CONSTITUTION: An Ni coated layer or an Ni-Co alloy coated layer having 0.3W 6μm thickness is formed by electroplating on the surface of a steel plate used as a material for a container for alcohol added gasoline or alcohol fuel, or the plate is further subjected to chromate treatment with an aqueous soln. of chromic acid such as a CrO 3 bath. Thus, the resistance to corrosion due to water contained in alcohol, oxide of alcohol such as formaldehyde, acetaldehyde or formic acid, and impurities such as acetic acid is increased remarkably, and superior characteristics as a container for alcohol fuel are provided.
