TL;DR: In this article, a fuel oil additive capable of effectively improving the quality of fuel oils, which comprises an oil-soluble metal salt of organic acid having the general formula MR, where R is an organic acid radical and the corresponding organic acid is a C 1 -C 40 saturated or unsaturated fatty acid, naphthenic acid, aromatic acid or alkylphenol.
Abstract: The present invention provides a fuel oil additive capable of effectively improving the quality of fuel oils, which comprises an oil-soluble metal salt of organic acid having the general formula MR, where R is an organic acid radical and the corresponding organic acid is a C 1 -C 40 saturated or unsaturated fatty acid, naphthenic acid, aromatic acid or alkylphenol, M is a metal cation and the corresponding metal is an alkali metal, alkali-earth metal, rare-earth metal, transition metal, or the like. The present invention also provides fuel oil products added with the fuel oil additive, including gasoline, diesel oil, kerosene, heavy oil, resid, or the like. The present invention especially provides a gasoline antiknock agent and a gasoline having excellent antiknock property, and this kind of gasoline antiknock agent is characteristic of effectiveness, economy, safety, no environmental pollution, no toxicity to human body, no adverse effect on parts of automobile engine, use convenience, and the like.

TL;DR: In this paper, a fully renewable engine fuel is derived from biomass sources, which is comprised of one or more low carbon number esters, pentosan-derivable furans, one or different aromatic hydrocarbons, and C4-C10 straight chain alkanes derived from polysaccharides, and bio-oils.
Abstract: The present invention provides fully renewable engine fuels derived completely from biomass sources. The fully renewable engine fuel is comprised of one or more low carbon number esters, one or more pentosan-derivable furans, one or more aromatic hydrocarbon, one or more C4-C10 straight chain alkanes derivable from polysaccharides, and one or more bio-oils. In addition, the fuel may contain triethanolamine. Such a lower octane renewable fuel may be utilized, for example, in automobile fuel, 100 LL aviation fuel applications, and turbine engine applications. These ethanol-based, fully renewable fuels may be formulated to have a wide range of octane values and energy, and may effectively be used to replace 100LL aviation fuel (known as AvGas), as well as high octane, rocket, diesel, and turbine engine fuels.

TL;DR: In this article, a biodiesel fuel derived from rice bran oil was tested as an alternative fuel for agricultural diesel engines, which resulted in lower carbon monoxide, carbon dioxide, and smoke emissions, without any increase in nitrous oxide emissions.
Abstract: Biodiesel has great potential as an alternative fuel for diesel engines that would reduce air pollution. It is a domestically produced, renewable fuel that can be manufactured from fresh or used vegetable oils, or from animal fats. In this study, a biodiesel fuel derived from rice bran oil was tested as an alternative fuel for agricultural diesel engines. The emissions were characterized for both neat and blended biodiesel fuels, and for conventional diesel fuel. Since this biodiesel fuel contained 11% oxygen, it strongly influenced the combustion process. The use of biodiesel fuel resulted in lower carbon monoxide, carbon dioxide, and smoke emissions, without any increase in nitrous oxide emissions. The study demonstrated that biodiesel fuel could be effectively used as a renewable and environmentally innocuous fuel for agricultural diesel engines.

TL;DR: In this article, the authors compared pure alcohols and alcohol-diesel fuel blends in terms of engine power, efficiency and emissions and concluded that pure alcohol is poor diesel fuel as their properties are significantly different from traditional fuels.
Abstract: Pure alcohols and alcohol-diesel fuel blends have been compared to diesel fuels in terms of engine power, efficiency and emissions. It is apparent that pure alcohols are poor diesel fuels as their properties are significantly different from the traditional fuels. These differences are examined and in some instances methods of offsetting the alcohols' deficiencies are assessed. Further areas of study are identified since it is possible that some regions of the world will need to use alcohols as diesel fuel extenders in the near future.
