TL;DR: In this article, the alpha channel of a semitransparent object in the foreground of a two-dimensional image is determined by the contribution of the background color of the image, the foreground color of an object, and its alpha channel.
Abstract: A two dimensional image which has a semitransparent object in the foreground of the image has three contributions to the final color shown in a pixel where the semitransparent object is present. Properties of a semitransparent object and background in the given two dimensional image are processed to determine the contribution of the background color of the image, the foreground color of the object, and the alpha channel of the object. Once these properties are determined, the accurate stereoscopic rendering of the semitransparent object in front of the background allows the two dimensional image to be converted to three dimensions.

TL;DR: In this paper, an alpha image is created in which each pixel is either a zero, indicating it is not part of the object, or a one, indicating that it is part of an object.
Abstract: An object is composited digitally from an input image onto a destination image. A background model is created and a frame of an input image containing the object is obtained. An alpha image is created in which each pixel is either a zero, indicating it is not part of the object, or a one, indicating that it is part of the object. The effect of shadows emanating from the object is reduced. A set of templates is then derived to allow holes or gaps in the object created during the compositing process to be filled to a large extent. The object is blended onto a destination image using the alpha image as a blending coefficient.

TL;DR: In this paper, a color definition in an RGBAV format allows for an additional component to control video blending and the V value defines blending of an alpha blended color with a video background.
Abstract: Alpha blending and video blending are both provided by a color definition in an RGBAV format allows for an additional component to control video blending. The V value defines blending of an alpha blended color with a video background.

TL;DR: In this article, the image processing method attaches first identification information to one or more of at least partial areas of the specified image and designated area information upon photographing, attaches second identification information in an image in an shooting frame to be composited with the reference image and prepares image data for a composite image obtained by compositing the image with the Reference image based on the first and second ID information as well as the designated area.
Abstract: The digital camera includes an image pickup unit, an image storing unit, an image display unit, a reference image designating unit with which one or more of at least partial areas of an image to be referenced for image compositing are designated as a reference image area and an image compositing unit which produces a composite image such that a reference image within the reference image area is displayed as superposed on an image being presently photographed. The image processing method attaches first identification information to one or more of at least partial areas of the specified image and designated area information upon photographing, attaches second identification information to an image in an shooting frame to be composited with the reference image and prepares image data for a composite image obtained by compositing the image with the reference image based on the first and second identification information as well as the designated area information.

TL;DR: In this paper, a method for producing graphical overlay elements on a source video program stream using Microsoft PowerPoint slides as a source of the graphical overlays to be overlaid on the source program stream, including representations of real-time information such as stock quotes or weather data.
Abstract: Discloses a method for producing graphical overlay elements on a source video program stream using Microsoft PowerPoint slides as a source of the graphical overlay elements to be overlaid on the source video program stream, including representations of real-time information such as stock quotes or weather data. A computer software algorithm is describe which includes a PowerPoint data objects parser that interacts with PowerPoint data objects and user input to create and control the overlay of PowerPoint graphical elements on the source video program stream. The PowerPoint data objects parser produces enhanced data objects representing the overlay graphic elements that include mask and alpha channel data for use a graphics engine to composite the enhanced data objects of the overlay graphic elements with an input video program stream.
