TL;DR: A new image compositing algorithm that can properly blend images whose features have a high aspect ratio is described, which makes it possible to composite hair or fur naturally.
Abstract: This paper describes a new image compositing algorithm that can properly blend images whose features have a high aspect ratio. Although several techniques have been used in image compositing, none of them works well for images whose features have a high aspect ratio. This compositing algorithm is a simulation on 2D projected space, of the physical phenomena of underlying 3D models. Our algorithm consists of the three steps. First, the images are composited using a multiresolution technique. Second, the features of each image are extracted. Finally, the features are overwritten to the composited image. This method makes it possible to composite hair or fur naturally.

Abstract: A system for capturing scene with the simultaneous use IR and VIS light for alpha channel creation and relighting effects in movie postproduction transmission comprising the subsystems of: Lighting sub system, Electro-optical system for simultaneous acquisition of the video in VIS and NIR, and Video post-processing converter for generation of alpha channel from the NIR video signal to perform determination between the foreground objects, illuminated with NIR light source and background. Video post-processing converter uses VIS images to obtain information for more precise alpha channel derivation.

TL;DR: A novel matting model based pansharpening (MMP) method is proposed for creating a fused image of high spatial and spectral resolutions through merging a panchromatic (PAN) image with a multi-spectral (MS) image.
Abstract: A novel matting model based pansharpening (MMP) method is proposed for creating a fused image of high spatial and spectral resolutions through merging a panchromatic (PAN) image with a multi-spectral (MS) image. Matting model refers to that an MS image can be decomposed into three components, i.e., alpha channel, spectral foreground and background. Through substituting the alpha channel of the MS image with the PAN image, the edge information from the PAN image can be transferred into the MS image without causing spectral distortion. Experiments demonstrate the superiority of the proposed method by subjective and objective evaluation.

TL;DR: In this paper, a video processing device includes a sprite rendering processor that performs: first rendering of allowing designated sprite image data to be reflected in the stored contents of a rendering line buffer; and second rendering of allowed a designated alpha table to be reflecting in the storage contents of an alpha buffer 106.
Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a video processing device capable of appropriately executing a wide variety of rendering using alpha blending. SOLUTION: The video processing device includes a sprite rendering processor 110 that performs: first rendering of allowing designated sprite image data to be reflected in the stored contents of a rendering line buffer; and a second rendering of allowing a designated alpha table to be reflected in the stored contents of an alpha buffer 106. The first rendering is performed via alpha blending on: image data of sprites as an object to be rendered; rendering-destination image data of the rendering line buffer; and alpha data corresponding to the rendering-destination image data of the alpha data in the alpha buffer 106, thus producing resultant image data of alpha blending, which is written over the rendering-destination image data. TL;DR: A VLSI architecture for independent electronic correction of multiple image layers is proposed in order to achieve optimal image quality in projection systems.
Abstract: Images displayed by projection systems can experience geometric distortions. These distortions can be compensated for by electronic correction, also called image warping. When the image that will be displayed is composed of several input sources, the different image layers have to be corrected independently from each other in order to achieve optimal image quality. A VLSI architecture for independent electronic correction of multiple image layers is proposed.
