TL;DR: The fuse for the protection of electric circuits comprises a casing filled with quartz sand, terminal contacts and a fuse link made of aluminium or an aluminium alloy as discussed by the authors, which is made of strip metal conductors, the widest current-conducting section of each strip having a width-to-thickness ratio within the range of 2:1 to 100:1.
Abstract: The fuse for the protection of electric circuits comprises a casing filled with quartz sand, terminal contacts and a fuse link made of aluminium or an aluminium alloy. The ratio of the mass of the quartz sand to the mass of the aluminium material of the fuse link is at least 40:1. The fuse link is made of strip metal conductors, the widest current-conducting section of each strip having a width-to-thickness ratio within the range of 2:1 to 100:1.

TL;DR: In this paper, the effect of deformation history on the plastic behavior of thin-walled tubular specimens of aluminium alloy 5056 was examined for three types of abruptly changing loading or strain paths: namely, reverse loading after preloading, orthogonal straining after pre-strain, and then perfect unloading, by applying combined loadings of axial force and torque.
Abstract: The effect of deformation history on the plastic behaviour of thin-walled tubular specimens of aluminium alloy 5056 was examined for three types of abruptly-changing loading or strain paths: namely, reverse loading after pre-loading, orthogonal straining after pre-strain, and orthogonal reloading after pre-loading and then perfect unloading, by applying combined loadings of axial force and torque. The experimental results revealed the following trends. The relation between the magnitudes of stress and strain after the comer is expressed for every pre-strain by a single curve parallel to the extension of the pre-loading curve, when the strain after the corner exceeds 1.2 per cent. Moreover, the relations between the stress reduced by pre-stress and strain after the corner for various values of the same type of pre-strain agree with each other; however, the relation for the tensile pre-strain differs clearly from that for the torsional pre-strain. Thus, A.A. Il'yushin's postulate of isotropy does not hold accurately for the above loading histories for the aluminium alloy even if the effect of the third invariant of stress deviator is eliminated.

TL;DR: In this article, the etch response of pure aluminium and 6063 (HE9) alloy was mainly determined by the iron-containing constituent, and it was shown that the pit density increases with the iron content.
Abstract: SummaryChemical etching in caustic soda of aluminium alloy sheet materials of 5005 (NS41) and 3103 (NB3) composition is studied by relating the fall in specular gloss to the weight of metal removed. A previous paper1 discussed the mechanism of etching and concluded that the etch response of pure aluminium and 6063 (HE9) alloy was mainly determined by the iron-containing constituent. The present paper establishes that in 5005 alloy the etch pits nucleate at the iron-containing intermetallic particles and that the etch pit density increases with iron content so that the surface becomes more matt. In 3103 alloy (1·1% Mn) there is a still higher density of intermetallics because of an extra contribution from the manganese constituent and a superior matt etching response. The grain size of the material is not readily revealed by alkaline etching and has little or no effect on the etch response. The etching rates of the 5005 alloys studied were found to increase with increasing iron content and the etching rate...

TL;DR: A gas discharge tube for use as surge voltage arrester consists of a gas tight housing with facing electrodes which are coated with a layer of high thermal electron emissivity.
Abstract: A gas discharge tube for use as surge voltage arrester consists of a gas tight housing with facing electrodes which are coated with a layer of high thermal electron emissivity. The layer consists of a paste which is applied to the electrodes as a mixture of an alkali halogenide with titanium hydride and a barium aluminium alloy. The electrical properties of this arrester remain unchanged because the chemical cpds. produced at low vapour press. have no detrimental effect. The arrester has a long service life and a low operating voltage.

TL;DR: In this article, a metal sprayed protective coating for the top of an aluminium trunk piston for internal combustion engines is described, which contains 30% aluminium, 5% silicon and 0.8% manganese.
Abstract: Metal sprayed protective coating for the top of an aluminium trunk piston for internal combustion engines contains, by wt., 20-30% aluminium, 8% max. silicon, 2% max. manganese, and balance iron. The pref. coating contains 30% aluminium, 5% silicon and 0.8% manganese. The coating provides a layer with higher thermal insulation than the aluminium alloy used for the piston, but avoids the tendency to peeling off which occurs when ceramic insulating coatings are used. Good adhesion exists between the coating and the piston during its working life.
