TL;DR: Using concentrated gels, vaccines were prepared from the virus of foot-and-mouth disease by passaging strains of Types A, SAT 1 and SAT 2 in cultures of surviving fragments of bovine tongue epithelium, where the virus was inactivated by formalin or acetylcthyleneimine, usually in the presence of aluminium hydroxide gel.

TL;DR: The adsorption and retardation of dissolution of both drugs by the adsorbent antacids studied followed the rank order magnesium trisilicate > magnesium oxide > aluminium hydroxide > edible clay.
Abstract: The adsorption of paracetamol and chloroquine phosphate onto some antacids with adsorptive properties, has been studied. Dissolution of the drugs from commercial tablets was significantly retarded in the presence of the antacids. The adsorption and retardation of dissolution of both drugs by the adsorbent antacids studied followed the rank order magnesium trisilicate greater than magnesium oxide greater than aluminium hydroxide greater than edible clay. The concomitant administration of the drugs and antacid formulations containing any of these should be discouraged.

TL;DR: In this article, a novel form of a purely amorphous Al(OH) 3(s) was identified, the thermal signature of which was a sharp exothermic peak (ca. 282°C) which though present in HAS A -like structures (260-275°C), was absent from HAS B-like structures.

TL;DR: In this article, the aluminium hydroxide formation at 37 °C in aqueous NaCl (0.15 mol dm-3) has been investigated and the following species have been characterized: [Al(OH)]2+, Al(OH)3, [Al[Al[OH]4], Al[Al]5], [Al6]15]3+, and [Al8(OH]22]2+.
Abstract: Aluminium is prone to hydrolyse within a large range of physiological pH. Although this phenomenon has drawn much attention in the recent past, no reliable hydroxide formation constants have been produced so far that can be applied to physiological conditions of ionic strength and temperature. Prior to future aluminium–ligand equilibrium studies, aluminium hydroxide formation at 37 °C in aqueous NaCl (0.15 mol dm–3) has been investigated. The following species have been characterized: [Al(OH)]2+, Al(OH)3, [Al(OH)4]–, [Al3(OH)11]2–, [Al6(OH)15]3+, and [Al8(OH)22]2+.

TL;DR: In this paper, the adsorption of a range of saturated and unsaturated fatty acids, together with acrylic acid, onto aluminium and magnesium hydroxides has been investigated using flow micro-calorimetry and diffuse reflectance infrared Fourier transform spectroscopy.
Abstract: Carboxylic acids, particularly fatty acids, are by far the most important surface modification systems for inorganic fillers used in the plastics and rubber industries. However, relatively little is understood regarding factors that affect their adsorption behaviour, including the interplay between acid molecular structure, adsorption conditions, and substrate chemistry. In this study, the adsorption (from n-heptane and toluene) of a range of saturated and unsaturated fatty acids, together with acrylic acid, onto aluminium and magnesium hydroxides has been investigated using flow micro-calorimetry and diffuse reflectance infrared Fourier transform spectroscopy (DRIFTS). With C18 saturated fatty acids, the overall heat of adsorption per unit surface area of substrate was found to be affected by the structure of the alkyl tail. The orientation of the adsorbed unsaturated fatty acids was found to be affected by the number of double bonds in the molecule. Acrylic acid was found to be very strongly adsorbing a...
