TL;DR: A nerve-sparing mid-urethral obstruction (NeMO) model for pBOO avoiding the disadvantages of the traditional model was developed and approached the urethra just inferior to the pubic symphysis, which obviated the need for laparotomy as well as for dissection in this area.
Abstract: Partial bladder outlet obstruction (pBOO) has a high prevalence, causes significant patient burden, and immense health care costs. The most common animal model to investigate bladder remodeling in pBOO are female rodents undergoing partial obstruction at the proximal urethra. Variability in the degree of obstruction and animal mortality are major concerns with proximal obstruction. Furthermore, dissecting around the proximal urethra and bladder neck jeopardizes bladder innervation. We developed a nerve-sparing mid-urethral obstruction (NeMO) model for pBOO avoiding the disadvantages of the traditional model. We approached the urethra just inferior to the pubic symphysis, which obviated the need for laparotomy as well as for dissection in this area; also, the striated urethral sphincter remained untouched. We performed NeMO in female Sprague-Dawley rats (12 obstructions, 6 sham animals) as well as in female C57/bl6 mice (20 obstructions, 18 sham animals). After two weeks, we evaluated bladder function, bladder mass, and body mass. We had no mortalities among obstructed- or sham-operated female rats; as described for the traditional proximal pBOO-method, we tied the suture around the proximal urethra and a temporarily placed 0.9 mm metal rod. NeMO induced an 85% increase in bladder mass after two weeks, average residual urine volume was 0.4 mL in partially obstructed rats while only 0.03 mL in sham animals. In mice, we tested 3 sizes of cannulas that we placed along the urethra when tying the suture. We found that using a 27-gauge cannula resulted in over 50% animal mortality; placing the 25-gauge cannula did not yield the desired response in increasing bladder mass; utilizing a 26-gauge cannula yielded favorable results with minimal animal mortality (1/8) yet a significant 2-fold increase in bladder mass.

TL;DR: In this article, a stochastic model of animal mortality and ageing is proposed in a living being there is a "biological clock", constructed from Q kinds of functional elements (genes), the reliability of functioning of these genes determines the biological age of the being.
Abstract: A stochastic model of animal mortality and ageing is proposed In a living being there is a "biological clock", constructed from Q kinds of functional elements (genes), The reliability of functioning of these genes determines the biological age of the being Oxidative processes in the cells are accompanied by random failures of electron transfer enzyme systems, which result in appearance of free superoxide radicals Failures of electron transfer enzymes and of defence enzymes lead to accumulation of functional damages in the genes of the "clock" In terms of the model experimental data of gerontology (Gompertz's law, Strehler-Mildvan's compensation effect, etc) are easily explained The value of Q for the man is estimated to be of the order of 10 Some possible mechanisms of action of "geroprotectors" have been discussed

TL;DR: In this article, tweets related to fires in Riau, Sumatra, were identified using carefully selected keywords for the 2014-2019 timeframe, which allows for geoparsing based on the user's nationality and hometown and on direct referrals to specific locations such as name of province or name of city in the message itself.
Abstract: In this study, tweets related to fires in Riau, Sumatra, were identified using carefully selected keywords for the 2014–2019 timeframe. The TAGGS algorithm was applied, which allows for geoparsing based on the user’s nationality and hometown and on direct referrals to specific locations such as name of province or name of city in the message itself. Online newspapers covering Riau were analyzed for the year 2019 to provide additional information about the reasons why fires occurred and other factors, such as impact on people’s health, animal mortality related to ecosystem disruption, visibility, decrease in air quality and limitations in the government firefighting response. Correlation analysis between meteorological information, Twitter activity and satellite-derived hotspots was conducted. The existing approaches that BMKG and other Indonesian agencies use to detect fire activity are reviewed and a novel approach for early fire detection is proposed based on the crowdsourcing of tweets. The policy implications of these results suggest that crowdsourced data can be included in the fire management system in Indonesia to support early fire detection and fire disaster mitigation efforts.

TL;DR: In this article, a dry micro-capsulated probiotic additive is produced by means of a capillary-sorption drying of a component mixture as far as a moisture content in a finished product ranges from 8 to 25 %.
Abstract: The invention relates to bioengineering and agriculture and can be used for producing compound feed containing probiotics for farm animals, poultry and fish breeding stock. The inventive probiotic additive is produced by mixing a bacterial biomass of Basillus subtilis B-2250 and/ or Basillus licheniformis B-2252 with auxiliary substances such as a sorbent-carrier and high-absorbency filler. The sorbent carrier is embodied in the form of A hydrophilic aerosils and AM hydrophobic aerosils, the high-absorbency filler is embodied in the form of KB-4P-2 and KU-2-8 tChs cationic resins at a given component ratio in terms of dry substance. The dry microcapsulated probiotic additive is produced by means of a capillary-sorption drying of a component mixture as far as a moisture content in a finished product ranges from 8 to 25 %. Said invention makes it possible to produce the microcapsulated probiotic additive which contains probiotic, is easy for use and consumption and preserves stabilised properties at all production stages. Said probiotic additive Subtilis dry microcapsulated improves food conversion and general state of animals, increases gain in weight and prevents animal mortality.

TL;DR: Xymedon (1-(β-oxyethyl)-4,6-dimethyl-1,2-dihydro-2-oxopyrimidine), a regeneratory and wound-healing drug, exhibited hepatoprotective activity in laboratory animals with experimental toxic hepatitis as mentioned in this paper.
Abstract: Xymedon (1-(β-oxyethyl)-4,6-dimethyl-1,2-dihydro-2-oxopyrimidine), a regeneratory and wound-healing drug, exhibited hepatoprotective activity in laboratory animals with experimental toxic hepatitis. Oral drug reduced the severity of toxic involvement of the liver induced by CCl4 and reduced animal mortality. Xymedon promoted recovery of the blood biochemical parameters characterizing the liver status.
