TL;DR: Direct and efficient synthesis of 1-naphthols has been realized via Rh(III)-catalyzed C-H activation of sulfoxonium ylides and subsequent annulation with alkynes, where the sulfoxaluminum ylide functioned as a new traceless bifunctional directing group.

TL;DR: In this article, the authors summarize the features and recent achievements of the Co-catalyzed directing group assisted C-H activation/cyclization reactions and their mechanistic insights.
Abstract: Considerable research attention has been directed towards the use of first-row transition metals in organic synthesis. The more abundant, and less expensive cobalt is considered to be an effective alternative for expensive second and third-row noble metals, especially in C-H bond functionalization reactions. In this mini-review, we will summarize the features, and recent achievements of the Co-catalyzed directing group assisted C-H activation/cyclization reactions and their mechanistic insights.

TL;DR: This transformation provides straightforward access to indeno[1,7-cd]azepine architectures through a sequence involving the formation of a rhodium(III) azavinyl carbene, dual C(sp(2))-H functionalization, and [3+2]/[5-2] annulation.
Abstract: A rhodium(III)-catalyzed [3+2]/[5+2] annulation of 4-aryl 1-tosyl-1,2,3-triazoles with internal alkynes is presented. This transformation provides straightforward access to indeno[1,7-cd]azepine architectures through a sequence involving the formation of a rhodium(III) azavinyl carbene, dual C(sp(2))-H functionalization, and [3+2]/[5+2] annulation.
