TL;DR: Some recent research results on algorithms designed for use in stand-alone, single-loop calculator or microprocessor-based controllers are presented, specifically tailored for simple implementation in a relatively low computing power, discrete-time environment.
Abstract: Process control applications and control algorithms suited for microprocessors are surveyed. Applications are noted both in large, general purpose process control systems and in specialized applications that have been made possible by the availability of computing power in small packages. Distributed control and use of extended data buses (data highways), both made possible by extensive use of microprocessors, are becoming standard in general purpose systems. General purpose process control systems still utilize proportional-integral-derivative (PID) algorithms and variants of them for the most part. Some recent research results on algorithms designed for use in stand-alone, single-loop calculator or microprocessor-based controllers are presented. These algorithms, which could also be used in direct digital control (DDC) systems, are specifically tailored for simple implementation in a relatively low computing power, discrete-time environment.

TL;DR: This article examines the challenges faced by data center administrators when deploying and configuring Web applications and introduces a new tool that extends the existing state of the art by automatically generating actionable distributed deployment models using model transformation techniques.
Abstract: In this article we examine the challenges faced by data center administrators when deploying and configuring Web applications. We discuss how the configuration dependencies of these Web applications cut across software stacks, network layers, and middleware container boundaries. We argue that the deployment and configuration process requires the combined expertise from multiple domains such as application, middleware, network, security, reliability, and performance. We review the model-based tools available today to manage the configuration complexity of these applications and introduce a new tool that extends the existing state of the art by automatically generating actionable distributed deployment models using model transformation techniques. The key idea behind this new tool is the principle of separation of concerns: developers capture the logical structure of the application in a model, best practices experts define deployment model transformation rules, deployers specify the required deployment patterns, and an operator provides a model describing the data center resources. The tool automatically finds solutions based on these four inputs and executes the deployment.

TL;DR: Methods for using power system readings to compute a real-time power flow solution of the transmission network and the use of redundant data are described.
Abstract: This paper describes methods for using power system readings to compute a real-time power flow solution of the transmission network. The use of redundant data is discussed and procedures are outlined to detect, identify, and correct for data errors. Several examples are presented and the numerical behavior of the methods is discussed.

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors present an approach to update platform and application software on all online, machine/servers in a cluster without manually taking each machine/server offline, where the new platform and/or application software is activated with or without a trial/test phase in an ACTIVATE phase.
Abstract: Platform and/or application software on all online, machine/servers in a cluster is updated without manually taking each machine/server offline. Initially, platform and/or application software for updating is stored in respective directories in an APPLY phase. Next, the new platform and/or application software is activated with or without a trial/test phase in an ACTIVATE phase. Where the new platform and/or application software is activated with a trial/test phase, a ROLLBACK phase is either automatically or manually invoked by the application in the event of a failure of the new software for backing out the new platform and/or application software and reactivating the previous platform and/or application software. An OFFICLAL phase then transitions the new platform and/or application software to the official state followed by a REACTIVATE phase for reactivating the backup copy of the previous/old platform and/or application software after the new software has been made official.

TL;DR: In this article, a user interaction with a browser-based application is detected at a software framework, where processing includes determining whether the user interaction can be handled locally or requires access to a resource at a remote computer system.
Abstract: Methods and apparatus, including computer program products, for processing a user interaction with an application, such as a browser-based application. A user interaction with the browser-based application is detected at a software framework. The browser-based application is executing in a browser at a local computer system. The user interaction is processed at the software framework, where processing includes determining whether the user interaction can be handled locally or requires access to a resource at a remote computer system. The user interaction is processed based on a result of the determination. A data item representative of the user interaction can be created at the software framework and stored at a data store. The data item can later be retrieved and the user interaction represented by the data item reprocessed at the software framework to replay the user interaction.
