TL;DR: This paper proposes a framework for secure access to databases by a wide audience over the Internet, using World Wide Web information servers, a modified version of the NCSA Mosaic Internet browser and role wrappers (software modules that assign roles to incoming database requests, based on the credentials submitted with the request).
Abstract: Security issues are the major roadblock currently preventing greater access to databases over the Internet. In this paper, we propose a framework for secure access to databases by a wide audience over the Internet, using World Wide Web information servers, a modified version of the NCSA Mosaic Internet browser and role wrappers (software modules that assign roles to incoming database requests, based on the credentials submitted with the request). We also describe an application embodying this framework. >

TL;DR: Strategies for designing hardware and software simulation entities are introduced to reduce the impact of size and performance constraints imposed by the cosimulation environment while addressing the issues of time management and synchronization.
Abstract: A heterogeneous environment for hardware/software cosimulation is described. This environment permits a portion of an application's subsystems to be simulated using reconfigurable hardware while the remainder of the subsystems are simulated using software. An Aptix FPCB populated with Xilinx FPGAs serves as the hardware simulation platform while an IBM-compatible PC serves as the software simulation platform. The two platforms are connected using an Altera reconfigurable logic board which allows the development of a high-speed interface for communication. This paper focuses on the difficulties associated with designing and interfacing simulation entities in this heterogeneous environment. Strategies for designing hardware and software simulation entities are introduced. These strategies reduce the impact of size and performance constraints imposed by the cosimulation environment while addressing the issues of time management and synchronization. A simple queueing application is used to illustrate a design methodology which incorporates these design strategies.

TL;DR: A framework for providing the ability to use multiple specialized data parallel libraries and/or languages within a single application, embodied in a runtime library called Meta-Chaos, which has been used to exchange data between data parallel programs written using High Performance Fortran and pC++.
Abstract: This paper describes a framework for providing the ability to use multiple specialized data parallel libraries and/or languages within a single application. The ability to use multiple libraries is required in many application areas, such as multidisciplinary complex physical simulations and remote sensing image database applications. An application can consist of one program or multiple programs that use different libraries to parallelize operations on distributed data structures. The framework is embodied in a runtime library called Meta-Chaos that has been used to exchange data between data parallel programs written using High Performance Fortran, the Chaos and Multiblock Parti libraries developed at Maryland for handling various types of unstructured problems, and the runtime library for pC++, a data parallel version of C++ from Indiana University. Experimental results show that Meta-Chaos is able to move data between libraries efficiently and that Meta-Chaos provides effective support for complex applications.

TL;DR: In this article, a software-defined radio (SDR) receiver platform based on a new substrate integrated waveguide six-port structure is proposed for high bit-rate SDR applications.
Abstract: With recent advances in semiconductor processing technology and the development of reconfigurable devices, high bit-rate software-defined radio (SDR) has become practical for commercial applications. This paper proposes an SDR receiver platform based on a new substrate integrated waveguide six-port structure. This SDR receiver platform operates from 22 to 26 GHz and it is designed to be robust, low cost, and suitable for different communication schemes. In this study, the receiver is demonstrated to support quadrature phase-shift keying and 16 quadrature amplitude modulation schemes. System-level simulation is made and prototype circuits are fabricated to evaluate the system performance. It is found that the combination of SDR and six-port technology can provide a great flexibility in system configuration, a significant reduction in system development cost, and also a high potential for software reuse. The proposed receiver shows a possible application of universal direct demodulator for future SDR terminals in various wireless communication systems.
