TL;DR: In this article, a single-chip micro-computer is used in a vehicle control unit, consisting of an interface software memory for storing data such as the result of computation, an I/O unit for extending the control unit and a means for communicating memory data through a bus or a LAN.
Abstract: A vehicle control unit comprises an interface software memory for storing an interface software program for connecting an application software program with an operating system in an internal ROM, a central processing unit for performing computation of the application software program and the interface software program, an erasable memory for storing data such as the result of computation, an I/O unit for extending the control unit, and extending means for communicating memory data through a bus or a LAN. A single-chip micro-computer is used in vehicle control.

TL;DR: An input-adaptive optimization framework, namely G-ADAPT, is developed to address the influence of program inputs by constructing cross-input predictive models for automatically predicting the (near-)optimal configurations for an arbitrary input to a GPU program.
Abstract: Recent years have seen a trend in using graphic processing units (GPU) as accelerators for general-purpose computing. The inexpensive, single-chip, massively parallel architecture of GPU has evidentially brought factors of speedup to many numerical applications. However, the development of a high-quality GPU application is challenging, due to the large optimization space and complex unpredictable effects of optimizations on GPU program performance. Recently, several studies have attempted to use empirical search to help the optimization. Although those studies have shown promising results, one important factor—program inputs—in the optimization has remained unexplored. In this work, we initiate the exploration in this new dimension. By conducting a series of measurement, we find that the ability to adapt to program inputs is important for some applications to achieve their best performance on GPU. In light of the findings, we develop an input-adaptive optimization framework, namely G-ADAPT, to address the influence by constructing cross-input predictive models for automatically predicting the (near-)optimal configurations for an arbitrary input to a GPU program. The results demonstrate the promise of the framework in serving as a tool to alleviate the productivity bottleneck in GPU programming.

TL;DR: In this paper, a file system for a portable data carrier provides improved security for files which support multiple applications, from custom repertory dialing to storage of individual medical and/or banking records.
Abstract: A file system for a portable data carrier (10) provides improved security for files which support multiple applications, from custom repertory dialing to storage of individual medical and/or banking records. Although the portable data carrier looks and feels much like an ordinary credit card, it includes a computer (110) and an electrically erasable programmable read-only memory (115). Power for operation of the portable data carrier is provided from an associated station (18) via a reader/writer (15). The reader/writer also couples data between the data carrier and the associated station. The applications reside in multiple files (42-48) in memory on the portable data carrier. Appropriate application software residing in the station, when accompanied by an appropriate password, enables the retrieval and modification of these files. A separate password is required for gaining access to each of designated levels of interaction between the portable data carrier and the associated station. Additional restrictions such as requiring an additional password for writting to a file and also allowing a user logged in at a particular security level to only append information to a file may be imposed in accordance with file security on the portable data carrier. And since each of the files may have its own security requirements, multiple applications may exist on the portable data carrier without conflict or confusion.

TL;DR: A novel PaaS architecture being developed in the EU IST IRMOS project targeting real-time Quality of Service (QoS) guarantees for online interactive multimedia applications is presented.
Abstract: Cloud computing offers the potential to dramatically reduce the cost of software services through the commoditization of information technology assets and on-demand usage patterns. However, the complexity of determining resource provision policies for applications in such complex environments introduces significant inefficiencies and has driven the emergence of a new class of infrastructure called Platform-as-a-Service (PaaS). In this paper, we present a novel PaaS architecture being developed in the EU IST IRMOS project targeting real-time Quality of Service (QoS) guarantees for online interactive multimedia applications. The architecture considers the full service lifecycle including service engineering, service level agreement design, provisioning and monitoring. QoS parameters at both application and infrastructure levels are given specific attention as the basis for provisioning policies in the context of temporal constraints. The generic applicability of the architecture is being verified and validated through implemented scenarios from three important application sectors (film post-production, virtual augmented reality for engineering design, collaborative e-Learning in virtual worlds).

TL;DR: In this article, a print service method for a printing system, text data contained in a mail received by a mobile phone owned by a user, and attachment file data attached to the received mail are downloaded into the printing system from the mobile phone.
Abstract: In a print service method for a printing system, text data contained in a mail received by a mobile phone owned by a user, and attachment file data attached to the received mail are downloaded into the printing system from the mobile phone Application software corresponding to the attachment file data is selected from application software stored in the printing system, thereby opening the attachment file data by using the selected application software The text data and the attachment file data opened by the selected application software are printed onto a printing medium
