TL;DR: In this article, the authors examined the impact of information type (dynamic verbal vs. dynamic visual cues) and augmenting immersive scenes (high vs. low virtual presence) on visitors' evaluation of the AR-facilitated museum experience and their subsequent purchase intentions.

TL;DR: A survey of different mobile and wireless technologies and how they have impact AR is provided so that it becomes easier to understand the state of art and to help identify new directions of research.
Abstract: Recent advances in hardware and software for mobile computing have enabled a new breed of mobile augmented reality (AR) systems and applications. A new breed of computing called ‘augmented ubiquitous computing’ has resulted from the convergence of wearable computing, wireless networking, and mobile AR interfaces. In this paper, we provide a survey of different mobile and wireless technologies and how they have impact AR. Our goal is to place them into different categories so that it becomes easier to understand the state of art and to help identify new directions of research. Copyright © 2008 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.

TL;DR: A real-time system for applying virtual paint and textures to real objects simply by direct physical manipulation of the object and a "paint brush" stylus to create the illusion of material properties.
Abstract: The authors present a Dynamic Spatially Augmented Reality system for augmenting movable 3D objects in an indoor environment using multiple projectors. We describe a real-time system for applying virtual paint and textures to real objects simply by direct physical manipulation of the object and a "paint brush" stylus. We track the objects and the "paint brush", and illuminate the objects with images that remain registered as they move, to create the illusion of material properties. The system is simple to use and we hope it may herald new applications in diverse fields such as visualization, tele-immersion, art and architecture. The system currently works with tracked objects whose geometry was pre-acquired and models created manually, but it is possible to extend it by adding cameras to the environment, to acquire object geometry automatically and use vision-based tracking for the object and paintbrush. Plus colour plates.

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors present techniques for capturing and analyzing information gathered by a mobile device equipped with one or more sensors, which can be used to extrapolate pertinent information about the surrounding environment and transmit the information to a service that can analyze the transmitted information.
Abstract: Example embodiments of the present disclosure provide techniques for capturing and analyzing information gathered by a mobile device equipped with one or more sensors. Recognition and tracking software and localization techniques may be used to extrapolate pertinent information about the surrounding environment and transmit the information to a service that can analyze the transmitted information. In one embodiment, when a user views a particular object or landmark on a device with image capture capability, the device may be provided with information through a wireless connection via a database that may provide the user with rich metadata regarding the objects in view. Information may be presented through rendering means such as a web browser, rendered as a 2D overlay on top of the live image, and rendered in augmented reality.
