TL;DR: In this article, automatic generation control of an interconnected hydrothermal system in continuous-discrete mode using conventional integral and proportionalintegral controllers has been considered for the thermal and hydro plants.
Abstract: This paper deals with automatic generation control of an interconnected hydrothermal system in continuous-discrete mode using conventional integral and proportional-integral controllers. Appropriate generation rate constraint has been considered for the thermal and hydro plants. The hydro area is considered with either mechanical or electric governor and thermal area is considered with either single or double reheat turbine. Performances of mechanical governor, electric governor, and single stage reheat turbine and two stage reheat turbine on dynamic responses have been explored. Further, selection of suitable value of speed regulation parameter R and sampling period has been investigated. System performance is examined considering 1% step load perturbation in either thermal or hydro area.

TL;DR: In this paper, a set of procedures and algorithms are developed for dynamic economic dispatch of generation units, coupled with a short-term load predictor, providing "look- ahead" capability.
Abstract: A set of procedures and algorithms are developed for dynamic economic dispatch of generation units. When coupled with a short-term load predictor, "look- ahead" capability is provided by the dynamic economic dispatch that coordinates predicted load changes with the rate-of- response capability of generation units. Dynamic economic dispatch also enables valve-point loading of generation units. Two examples are provided which demonstrate that our approach overcomes the severe limits on the number of units that could be dynamically dispatched in past approAches.

Abstract: Considerations necessary for the design of a total control system for the improvement of the reliability of the generation transmission system are discussed. The control system is made of automatic functions, human participation, and an information system.

TL;DR: In this article, the authors present a review of the present regional secondary voltage control, and the prospects for the evolution towards a co-ordinated system, based on a sensitivity matrix model, closed-loop pole assignment and adaptive techniques.
Abstract: The voltage control of the french power system is organized in three hierarchical levels, which concern distinct geographical areas and time constants. The rapid and random variations are compensated by local primary and automatic actions on the generators A.V.Rs, then the slow variations are regulated by the secondary (at regional level) and tertiary (at national level) actions. The paper gives a review of the present regional secondary voltage control, and the prospects for the evolution towards a co-ordinated system, based on a sensitivity matrix model, closed-loop pole assignment and adaptive techniques. Analog and digital simulations are presented.
