TL;DR: In this paper, measurements of the helical structure of the rotating pressure field and the variation in amplitude of the acoustic signal over a stator exit plane are presented, and the results show that this phenomenon shares many characteristics with acoustic resonance as measured in high-speed compressors.
Abstract: Measurements are presented of a resonant acoustic phenomenon occurring in a low-speed multistage compressor. The results show that this phenomenon shares many characteristics with acoustic resonance as measured in high-speed compressors. These similarities include a rotating pressure field, several acoustic frequencies corresponding to different circumferential modes, step changes in frequency as the flow rate is increased, and acoustic frequencies that are independent of flow coefficient, shaft speed, and the axial length of the compression system. The paper includes measurements of the helical structure of the rotating pressure field and of the variation in amplitude of the acoustic signal over a stator exit plane.

01 Jun 2003TL;DR: In this article, an experimental investigation on stall inception in a single-stage axial-flow pump, utilizing an oil flow technique and two different photo techniques, was performed and the unsteady casing wall pressure was measured, which allowed a number of key features of the stall inception process to be identified and followed along the unstable part of the pump characteristic.
Abstract: The paper describes an experimental investigation on stall inception phenomena in a single-stage axial-flow pump, utilizing an oil flow technique and two different photo techniques Moreover, the unsteady casing wall pressure was measured Representative results are shown and discussed: the pump characteristic for two different NPSH values, selected oil flow pictures of the casing wall and the rotor blades, the wall pressure distribution at design, selected pictures of the cavitating core of the tip clearance vortex at stable and unstable operating conditions and the visualization of a cross-passage vortex as a deep stall phenomenon These results allow a number of key features of the stall inception process to be identified and to be followed along the unstable part of the pump characteristic

TL;DR: In this paper, a vapor compression refrigeration system using a centrifugal compressor with magnetic bearings and a refrigerant is described. And magnetic bearings eliminate the problem caused by lubricated bearings to support rotating structure during normal compressor operation.
Abstract: A vapor compression refrigeration system, such as a water chiller, uses a centrifugal compressor with magnetic bearings and a refrigerant, specifically HFC-227ea and HFC-227ca, to minimize enthalpy rise across the compressor and/or provide compression in a single stage for low cooling capacity Magnetic bearings eliminate the problem caused by lubricated bearings to support rotating structure during normal compressor operation The centrifugal compressor can be configured with a pre-defined static surge line

TL;DR: In this article, a series of rotating vanes, stationary vanes or supporting structure of streamline struts is oriented in circumferentially leaning relation to another series of blades in the machine to effect a reduction in noise.
Abstract: In an air blower or axial compressor, such as employed in airplane power plants, ventilating systems, etc, a series of rotating vanes, stationary vanes, or supporting structure of streamline struts is oriented in circumferentially leaning relation to another series of blades in the machine so as to effect a reduction in noise
