TL;DR: In this article, an optically controlled 1 × 4 remote node switch, based on membrane InP switches bonded to a silicon-on-insulator circuit, is demonstrated. But it is not shown that the switch exhibits cross talk better than 25 dB between the output ports, and it operates without receiver sensitivity penalty.
Abstract: In this paper we demonstrate an optically controlled 1 × 4 remote node switch, based on membrane InP switches bonded to a silicon-on-insulator circuit. We show that the switch exhibits cross talk better than 25 dB between the output ports, and that the switch operates without receiver sensitivity penalty. Furthermore, the proposed switch architecture allows for optical clock distribution as a means to avoid the need for clock recovery at the receiver side. This is demonstrated in a proof-of-principle experiment where data and clock are sent through a single membrane InP switch.

01 Sep 2020TL;DR: In this article, scalable 2×2, 4×4 and 8×8 silicon photonic thermal switches exhibiting low loss, low crosstalk, energy-efficient and error-free data transmission were designed and experimentally demonstrated.
Abstract: We design and experimentally demonstrate scalable 2×2, 4×4 and 8×8 silicon photonic thermal switches exhibiting low loss, low crosstalk, energy-efficient and error-free data transmission. Insertion loss below 3.1 dB with crosstalk of at most 20.5 dB is measured for the 8×8 SiPh thermo-optic switch.

17 May 1995TL;DR: The performance of the FAB switch under non-uniform traffic patterns of practical importance is investigated.
Abstract: The Fat-Banyan (FAB) switch is based on optimizing the internal switch bandwidth in a Banyan network. The FAB switch has been shown to perform well under uniform traffic conditions. In this paper we investigate the performance of the FAB switch under non-uniform traffic patterns of practical importance.

24 Nov 2014TL;DR: Experimental results of 1×2 and 2×2 carrier-injection Mach-Zehnder switch cells fabricated on a commercial multi-project wafer are reported and are compared to targets determined by system architecture.
Abstract: Experimental results of 1x2 and 2x2 carrier- injection Mach-Zehnder switch cells fabricated on a commercial multi-project wafer are reported. The performance of the devices is compared to targets determined by system architecture. I. INTRODUCTION Large-scale photonic switch matrices have the potential to solve performance bottlenecks which are increasingly facing optical communications networks. System performance requirements for large photonic switch matrices impose steep performance targets for individual switch cells and connecting waveguides. In this paper, we present experimental data on single-cell silicon-on-insulator carrier-injection switches based on Mach-Zehnder interferometers (MZI), and compare the device performance to realistic targets stemming from a recently proposed switch architecture (1).
