TL;DR: It is shown that using the proposed control system, the frequency deviations of the power system will decrease.
Abstract: In this paper, the effect of the increased penetration of wind farms (WFs) and microgrids (MGs) on the frequency control of power systems is studied. WFs are responsible to contribute in load frequency control of power system by changing their injected electrical power. A new control method is proposed to utilize the kinetic energy of wind turbines to support system frequency, considering minimum speed of their rotor. Also, distributed energy resources of MGs, in each area, are controlled to change their active power and adjust the injected power at point of common coupling after a disturbance in the power system. A modified hierarchical coordinated control is used for the optimal control of the entire system. In the first level of this hierarchical control system, each area is optimized and in the second level (coordinator), interactions between areas are adjusted for the global optimization. The parameters of the controller are adaptively adjusted by a fuzzy controller for the best performance in different operating conditions. It is shown that using the proposed control system, the frequency deviations of the power system will decrease.

TL;DR: In this paper, an integrated CHP system consisting of CHP units, wind power plants, and condensing power plants is investigated to decouple the power and heat production on both the power supply side and heat supply side, by incorporating electrical energy storage (EES) and thermal energy storage(TES).
Abstract: Wind power has achieved great development in Northern China, but abundant wind power is dissipated, rather than utilized, due to inflexible electricity production of combined heat and power (CHP) units. In this paper, an integrated CHP system consisting of CHP units, wind power plants, and condensing power plants is investigated to decouple the power and heat production on both the power supply side and heat supply side, by incorporating electrical energy storage (EES) and thermal energy storage (TES). Then the integrated CHP system dispatch (ICHPSD) model is formulated to reach the target of reducing wind power curtailment and primary energy consumption. Finally, the feasibility and effectiveness of the proposed ICHPSD model are verified by the six-bus system, and the simulation results show that EES has a better effect on wind power integration than TES. The annual net benefits by incorporating EES and TES increase with increasing wind penetration, but they gradually approach saturation. Introducing both EES and TES can largely increase the amount of wind power integration and improve the operation efficiency of the system.

TL;DR: In this article, a hybrid power system for supplying power to a load (12) such as an electric vehicle is provided, which includes an energy storage device and a fuel cell system.
Abstract: A hybrid power system ( 10 ) for supplying power to a load ( 12 ) such as an electric vehicle is provided. The power system ( 10 ) includes an energy storage device ( 14 ) and a fuel cell system ( 16 ). When the state of charge of the energy storage device ( 14 ) is greater than or equal to a predetermined state of charge, the energy storage device ( 14 ) supplies all of the power to the load ( 12 ). When the state of charge of the energy storage device ( 14 ) falls below the predetermined state of charge, the fuel cell system ( 16 ) supplies at least a portion of the power to the load ( 12 ). In accordance with one aspect of the invention, the fuel cell system ( 16 ) then supplies all of the power to the load ( 12 ) as long as the power requirement of the load ( 12 ) does not exceed an optimal power output of the fuel cell system ( 16 ).

TL;DR: In this paper, a virtual power plant consisting of several renewable energy sources and at least one conventional power plant is developed to diversify the risk in order to create a stabile market agent.
Abstract: Since renewable sources, such as wind and solar power plants, suffer from their stochastic nature, their behavior on market is very delicate. In order to diversify the risk, a concept of virtual power plant is developed. The virtual power plant is consisted of several renewable energy sources and at least one conventional power plant. The production of renewable energy sources cannot be perfectly forecasted, and in order to create a stabile market agent, a conventional power plant is used to produce the electricity when necessary. Therefore, an optimal dispatch schedule within the virtual power plant is needed. To address this problem, a mixed-integer linear programming model is created with goal of minimizing the costs of conventional power plant. It is assumed that virtual power plant has to satisfy the bilateral contracts of electricity delivery within a weekly time horizon on hourly basis. The focus of this paper is the influence of the conventional power plant technical minimum value to overall virtual power plant production costs.
