Abstract: This paper presents a methodology for the analysis of frequency dynamics in large-scale power systems with high level of wind energy penetration by means of a simplified model for DFIG-based wind turbines. In addition, a virtual inertia controller version of the optimized power point tracking (OPPT) method is implemented for this kind of wind turbines, where the maximum power point tracking curve is shifted to drive variations in the active power injection as a function of both the grid frequency deviation and its time derivative. The proposed methodology integrates the model in a primary frequency control scheme to analyze the interaction with the rest of the plants in the power system. It is also proven that, under real wind conditions, the proposed version of the OPPT method allows us to smooth the wind power injected into the grid, thereby reducing frequency fluctuations.

Abstract: This paper discusses the key issues that confront power system planners and operators when integrating wind power plants into the electric power system. A key question is how the variations in wind plant outputs affect the operation of the power system on a daily basis and what the associated costs are. These costs are lower than initially expected by some utility engineers. The main reason for this is that wind tends to behave more like negative load than traditional firm-block generation, and the power system has been designed to handle significant load variations on a routine basis. This paper summarizes the key results of wind integration studies conducted to date and provides insights from individual studies. The studies present simulations of system operations that employ well-established production-costing and unit-commitment computational tools.

Abstract: A large proportion of the world's population lives in remote rural areas that are geographically isolated and sparsely populated. This paper proposed a hybrid power generation system suitable for remote area application. The concept of hybridizing renewable energy sources is that the base load is to be covered by largest and firmly available renewable source(s) and other intermittent source(s) should augment the base load to cover the peak load of an isolated mini electric grid system. The study is based on modeling, simulation and optimization of renewable energy system in rural area in Sundargarh district of Orissa state, India. The model has designed to provide an optimal system conFigureuration based on hour-by-hour data for energy availability and demands. Various renewable/alternative energy sources, energy storage and their applicability in terms of cost and performance are discussed. The homer software is used to study and design the proposed hybrid alternative energy power system model. The Sensitivity analysis was carried out using Homer program. Based on simulation results, it has been found that renewable/alternative energy sources will replace the conventional energy sources and would be a feasible solution for distribution of electric power for stand alone applications at remote and distant locations.
