TL;DR: In this article, a method of relaying data between mobile stations in a cellular communications system is provided, where each base station makes synchronization transmissions within its area of covers, which define a broadcast control channel for the transmission of broadcast data from the base station to mobile stations within the area of coverage.
Abstract: A method of relaying data between mobile stations in a cellular communications system is provided. The system comprises a number of mobile stations and base stations. Each base station makes synchronization transmissions within its area of covers, which define a broadcast control channel for the transmission of broadcast data from the base station to mobile stations within the area of coverage. The synchronization transmissions are received at mobile stations within the area of coverage, which extracts data defining the broadcast control channel, and at least one calling channel on which mobile stations can transmit probe data to one another. The probe data is used by the mobile stations to obtain connectivity information relating to the availability of other mobile stations. The synchronization transmissions also contain data which is used to define at least one traffic channel which is used by the mobile stations to relay message data between themselves. Effectively, the method of the invention provides a hybrid system which combines conventional cellular technology with opportunistic relaying technology.

TL;DR: In this paper, a base station, which wirelessly transmits power using a magnetic field, performs in-band communication through the magnetic field used for wireless power transmission in order to determine whether an electronic device receiving power is in a charging area or in a communication area, and transmits wireless power accordingly.
Abstract: The present invention relates to a wireless power transmission network and to a wireless power transmission method. In the wireless power transmission method according to one aspect of the present invention, a base station, which wirelessly transmits power using a magnetic field, performs in-band communication through the magnetic field used for wireless power transmission in order to determine whether an electronic device receiving power is in a charging area or in a communication area, and transmits wireless power accordingly.

TL;DR: The Public Access Mobility LAN (PAMLAN) as mentioned in this paper supports virtual operator LANs representing different network services providers, authorization and accounting mechanism, support of multiple air interfaces, and local IP mobility.
Abstract: Public wireless communications will increasingly extend into wireless LAN (WLAN) environments in order to meet the ubiquitous access, high data rate, and local services demands of future Internet appliances. By relying on IP-level services mechanisms, the Public Access Mobility LAN (PAMLAN) can simultaneously support different air interfaces, franchises for multiple services providers, and a multi-segment LAN environment including handoffs. The PAMLAN supports virtual operator LANs representing different network services providers, authorization and accounting mechanism, support of multiple air interfaces, and local IP mobility. A router associated with each base station realizes this highly distributed IP networking environment, and a QoS-enabled switched Ethernet core supports virtual networks and QoS services.

TL;DR: In this article, a mobile station selects a preferred cell site for transmitting a frame of data to be sent subsequently to the mobile station, and a base station transmits a transmission of the frame, wherein parameters for the transmission are determined by the base station from recently-measured channel and interference information.
Abstract: A mobile station (402) selects (1802) a preferred cell site for transmitting a frame of data to be sent subsequently to the mobile station. A base station (602) of the preferred cell site schedules (1804) a transmission of the frame of data, wherein parameters for the transmission are determined by the base station from recently-measured channel and interference information. Thereafter, the base station sends (1806) the frame of data from the preferred cell site; and an active set of base stations associated with the mobile station at ones of a plurality of cell sites synchronize (1808) their data queues to reflect the transmission of the frame of data.
