TL;DR: This work studies a scenario where base stations are connected only if in adjacent cells, and via finite-capacity links, and sheds light on the impact of codebook information, decoding delay, and network planning on the performance of multicell decoding as enabled by local and finite- capacity backhaul links.
Abstract: Cooperative decoding at the base stations (or access points) of an infrastructure wireless network is currently well recognized as a promising approach for intercell interference mitigation, thus enabling high frequency reuse. Deployment of cooperative multicell decoding depends critically on the tolopology and quality of the available backhaul links connecting the base stations. This work studies a scenario where base stations are connected only if in adjacent cells, and via finite-capacity links. Relying on a linear Wyner-type cellular model with no fading, achievable rates are derived for the two scenarios where base stations are endowed only with the codebooks of local (in-cell) mobile stations, or also with the codebooks used in adjacent cells. Moreover, both uni- and bidirectional backhaul links are considered. The analysis sheds light on the impact of codebook information, decoding delay, and network planning (frequency reuse) on the performance of multicell decoding as enabled by local and finite-capacity backhaul links. Analysis in the high-signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) regime and numerical results validate the main conclusions.

TL;DR: In this article, a method and system for traffic monitoring and prediction of traffic intensity is presented, which comprises the steps of determining at least twice, within a specified time interval, geographical positions of a plurality of mobile devices in a mobile telecommunications network.
Abstract: A method and system for traffic monitoring and prediction of traffic intensity. The method comprises the steps of determining at least twice, within a specified time interval, geographical positions of a plurality of mobile devices in a mobile telecommunications network. This is done by means of measuring at least one property of signals transmitted between the mobile devices and base stations in the mobile telecommunications network. At least a subset of the geographical positions are compared with a route of a road provided in a route database in order to identify mobile devices having routes corresponding to at least a part of the road route. A velocity for the identified mobile devices based on the at least two positions, and the calculated velocity of at least one identified mobile device is compared with a reference velocity of the road in order to predict traffic intensity on the road. A system for short range monitoring is also provided.

TL;DR: In this paper, a position locating system and method for determining a geographic location of a portable remote unit is presented. But, the location of the remote unit cannot be determined from the satellite positioning information.
Abstract: A position locating system and method are provided for determining a geographic location of a portable remote unit. The locating system includes a communications system having at least one base station and a system controller. The base station bi-directionally couples the remote unit to the system controller through wireless links. The locating system also includes a server coupled to the system controller by a communication infrastructure external to the communications system. The server includes a data store which contains satellite positioning information. In response to a message from the remote unit, the server provides satellite information to the system controller over the communication infrastructure such that the provided satellite information is passed to the remote unit by the base station. The provided satellite information includes information to aid in acquiring a predetermined number of satellites within a satellite positioning system. The acquired satellites provide coded signals for determining the geographic location of the remote unit. In one embodiment, the data communication system is a cellular telephone network and the communication infrastructure is the Internet. The Internet is coupled to the cellular telephone network through a public switched telephone network (PSTN).

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors proposed an automatic recovery of failed connection in case of relay station orientation change due to influence of various external factors (wind, vibration, different intensity of heating of the bracing mountings at different time of day and others) and can be used in backhaul systems of base station sites for mobile networks.
Abstract: The invention relates to millimeter-wave point-to-point communication systems. A system comprises two separated millimeter-wave transceivers which provide high throughput data transmission and reception in frequency duplex mode and use high gain antennas capable of electronic scanning in some continuous angle range provided by the control module that implement control algorithms for antenna radiation pattern. Also a method based on the exploitation of scanning antennas of initial beam directions fine adjustment and subsequent beam directions tracking and readjustment when needed is proposed. The proposed system and method provide automatic recovery of failed connection in case of relay station orientation change due to influence of various external factors (wind, vibration, different intensity of heating of the bracing mountings at different time of a day and others) and can be used in backhaul systems of base station sites for mobile networks.

TL;DR: In this article, an apparatus and method for a remote diagnostic system for motorized vehicles is presented. Apparatus according to this aspect of the invention includes a base station having a processor associated with a transceiver and a remote unit installed in a vehicle.
Abstract: An apparatus and method for a remote diagnostic system for motorized vehicles. Apparatus according to this aspect of the invention includes a base station having a processor associated with a transceiver and a remote unit installed in a vehicle. The remote unit includes a controller associated with a transceiver, where the controller gathers diagnostic data. The remote unit controller transmits a vehicle identification signal in conjunction with diagnostic data to the base station transceiver such that the base station processor monitors the diagnostic data for the vehicle. Another aspect of the invention further includes a mapping processor associated with a memory. The memory stores a virtual map of a local operating area having areas that are allowable and restricted. The controller is coupled to the mapping processor and a GPS (Global Positioning System) receiver is coupled to the mapping processor. The GPS receiver determines a current vehicle location and the mapping processor correlates the current vehicle location to a corresponding location on the virtual map. The mapping processor determines whether the vehicle is in a restricted area. The vehicle transceiver is configured to transmit a vehicle identification signal and location to the base station transceiver such that the base station processor monitors the location and status for each of the motorized vehicles.
